- If you insist on installing vinyl tiles over the ceramic....first you need to abrade the surface of the ceramic, then you need a high quality floor leveler, such as Ardex to skim over the entire floor and fill in the grout joints. In the areas without tiles, you can use plywood to build up to the level of the existing tile. Make sure to skim over the plywood joints as well. Hopefully, you are not using the peel and stick tiles, because over time they do not stay stuck to the floor. Use the dry back and put the adhesive on the floor, and the tile in the glue. Just remember - your new floor is only as good as the floor under it...best to rip up the ceramic.

- You can use some rendering tools to display your products to customers. You can put all your products in the tool and change different tiles in real room. This will help your business
- Q: I have granite tiles I want to put on a kitchen countertop. I removed the laminate and underneath is about 1.5 thick of a particle board of some sort. The countertop is very sturdy and the board is in great shape. I know if this stuff get wet, you can have problems, but otherwise it seems to be very sturdy stuff. I know most people will say you need to put down a sheet of hardibacker, but I don‘t see the point. With a top grade thinset, these tiles will definitely adhere to the board extremely well. Grount lines will be extremely tiny and I‘m going to double seal everything with a really good sealer. I don‘t see anyway water is going to penetrate these tiles and thinset and get to the particle board. That‘s really the whole issue, right?
- I personally would rather have hardibacker. Flooring people in my house right now repairing the floor and a joist because it was not used. Not even in an area that gets a lot of water exposure. Consider how often the counter gets wet and cleaned. That may change your mind. Also, you will need to reseal this more often than the product recommendations because of the amount of wear that is involved. Granite is also pourous and can vary on the quality. I just asked the tile/granite guys that are doing my work. Said they would not recomment it in tiles - sheeted granite is a different story.

- I have slate tiles in my geckos 20 gallon long tank and I love it, its been a great substrate so far. It was pretty cheap I believe I paid like $10 bucks for 3 tiles. Alot of leo owners use slate tiles because of how natural it looks like you mentioned and easy to clean. He loves it and lays his belly on the tiles for heat Its very easy to clean just scoop the poop or use wet paper towels to clean. And yes it is good to use sand underneath the tiles to block some of the extra heat, because UTH's can get hot. I used about 5 small bags for my 20 long, and it reaches 90 degrees which is great. Measure the 10 gallon and try to get the biggest slate tiles that will fit. I filled in the cracks with sand so crickets cant get into the cracks. I filled the extra space on the sides of the tank with small rocks over the sand and it looks great, (home depot didnt have tiles that would fit the whole terraium). But overall slate tiles have been the best substrate Ive used so far so much better then reptile carpet and so much easier to clean.
- Q: I laid some ceramic tile about 6 years ago in a family room. There are some tile that sound hallow, Like they did not set in the adhesive securely. Nothing else is wrong with the tile, but it does sound hallow when you walk on it. I laid the tile on a concrete slab. How would you go about fixing this? I thought of drilling a small hole in the center of the tile and spraying some liquid insulation (that you put around windows) and grouting the hole closed with some grout the same color as the tile.
- Don't do the insulation thing, it will crack the tile. It is not unusual for that to happen. To fix it take a chisel and dig out the grout around the edges. Then very gently with the bevel on the chisel toward the floor try to get it under the edge of the tile and work around the edges to pry the tile up. The chances that you will break the tile are about 85%, or 95 % you will damage the surrounding tiles so leave the thing alone until or if it breaks on it's own.

- In some measure it depends on how strong you want the tiles to be. Fired clay, in even a tile sense, is usually done at 3600 degrees in a kiln. Then cooled, painted/glazed/ etc. and fired again. At a decent pottery retailer you can find dozens of types of clay, and in fact some that is low fire, or even oven bake, which can be hand painted, and perhaps glazed over with a clear coat and no re-firing, but the strength and durability issue will still exist. Clay for tile, Ceramic or Porcelain, is slab rolled for consistency, Cut precisely, fired in kilns, cooled, then is decorated variously. Some larger houses will sell blanks that one can decorate themselves, even coffee mugs/cups/ bathroom sinks. etc. Obviously with a rolling pin and some risers, at 3/8 or 1/4, you could hand roll the clay and cut it, but then what? Below is a link for a general search to a company that can give you all the info you need in various methods and types of clay used. I spent a lot of $$$ with them in the early part of this decade. - What type of paint and what type of tile? What is the base to your paint, in other words. Different paint and different tiles have different answers. Often with older ceramic tile and if you don't use oil based paint... you can simple take a fingernail and scrape it off easily with no damage to tile. You can try a small razor blade and be very very careful about it, which is what i've done many times. Paint thinner can help, mineral spirits as well. But can hurt many different types of tile. But without knowing specifics, i can't give a specific answer to the best method of getting the paint off.
