When this happens repeatedly there are several things to consider in addition to the valid ones which were covered in Dave's answer. Here are a few others to consider arranged by how frequent they might occur. 1- If the light bulb is not securely screwed into the socket, it could cause an electrical short which will burn out the bulb quickly. We see this problem very regularly. 2- If a small voltage spike is the problem, you may solve this problem by purchasing higher voltage bulbs (not higher wattage). In the USA, many standard light bulbs are rated 110-120 volts. A heavier duty bulb rated 130 volts may last longer. 3- There may be a voltage spike in your electrical circuit. A small voltage spike is very common and expected. But abnormal spikes do happen and they will blow out light bulbs. This is a job for a certified electrician who can conduct tests to determine if this may be the culprit. Good luck with your fixture.

- Gels are only really necessary if your 3 light sources are different coloured light for example tungsten and daylight fluorescent. Then you would gel the light that is different to make them all daylight. Gelling for effect i.e. a warmer light you would gel all the lights, but you can do this globally in the video editor more easily. Gelling just one light for effect normally just looks odd, the real answer is to try it, but normally you want to work with all lights at the same colour temperature, daylight is best as then any natural light through a window would blend in. You can gel the background lights to create a mood, cooler or warmer or just for a colour splash maybe shone through a 'biscuit' to cast an interesting shadow (potted plants work well), but normally you want daylight balanced light on your subjects or skin tones start to look odd.
