6. What's the characteristics about porcelain tiles and glazed tiles? Which one
more slippery, more aesthetically pleasing and easy to clean?
Glazed tiles are colorful, the effect is rather diverse, stain-slip, abrasion resistance but worse than the porcelain tiles. Long-term use may wear a large surface; porcelain tiles have the higher degree, long hard wear surface. Good performance and stable cleanup (before playing the best times to use the wax to improve stain resistance). The porcelain tiles are weaker performance in non-slip than glazed tiles. We should take attention on its anti-slip properties, face down in a tiled brick water testing.
7. How to choose bathroom tiles? Porcelain tiles or glazed tiles?
Currently used in the bathroom tiles with glazed tiles (mainly from price considerations, some high-end can choose tiles, notice to choose tiles), divided into Shinny and Matt two kinds. Light color makes people feel shinny, but the bathroom more appropriate to create a warm feeling, so the best choose is uses matte, the shinny feels more soft and not dazzling.
- Q: I‘m curious...How are Terra Cotta roof tiles secured to the roof?? It seems that if they were nailed down, the installer would risk the chance of cracking, or shattering the tile..Is there some type of nail set that prohibits driving the fastener too far into the pieces? Obviously, they just don‘t lie there...
- here in the uk we dont use shingles ..not man enough to last ..so we have clay . ncrete ..and terra cotta roof tiles ...no point in putting on a roof covering unless it gonna last at least 100 years ..out roof tiles have hooks at top that sit behind the tile lathe ...most tiles are not actually nailed ..most are every 3 or 5 rows ..i have worked on dozens of roofs where not one was nailed ..the roof angles and tile weight prevent them from moving ..we fix with either galvanised or copper nails
- Q: We are about to install 450 sq ft of 18x18 inch travertine tile on an indoor concrete floor and I need as much information about the installation process as possible. I have done a number of ceramic tile jobs, but never laid travertine. Some of the questions I have are:1. is it best to use spacers and grout, or butt the tiles?2. if I use spacers, what size should I use?3. should I apply a coat of sealer to the tiles before laying them?4. what size notched trowel should I use and at what angle?5. how many coats of sealer, brand and type of finish is recommended?6. I read somewhere that it is not recommended laying travertine straight, but in a Versailles pattern. Any one have any idea what this is?Does anyone have any more advice on laying this type of tile. - Q: I have never tiled before. I have a 3 x3 ft entrance in my house. I would like to remove the old tile and re tile it. How long should this take? and can I just tile over the old tile or does it have to be removed? but mostly how long should it take me to do?
- I love these how long will it take or how much will it cost questions. Who knows? How fast can you work? I could probably do it in less than 90 minutes of actual working time, but I do it for a living. Much more important questions to answer are these: What is the sub-floor under the tile? You may need to put some Hardi-backer under it before re-tiling. Remember, just because you do something the way it was before doesn't necessarily make the original job correct. How big of a tile are you using? The bigger the tile, the faster the job goes, assuming you have the proper tools to handle the bigger tile. Do you have any tile tools? If not, you will have to buy them or rent them. Since the area is so small and shouldn't cost that much to have done professionally, why don't you consider having it done by someone who knows what they are doing? After you buy or rent all the tools, you won't save very much money. If you asked me to bid the job, I could do it for less than $200 not counting the cost of the tile. That would include any underlayment, the thinset and the grout. AND I own the tools to do it properly. Good luck.

- The metal frame that divides the tile into different sections is made from strips of metal carefully bent and soldered into place. I have seen steel ones and also brass mold patterns. The key to it is to have the bottom of the strips perfectly flat and level so that when you pour in the liquid cement mix, each color stays in its own compartment. - Q: My new home has a kitchen with glazed ceramic tiles covering most of the walls.The colour is basically honey brown, but there‘s a hideous purple border (in the same tile size shape) running horizontally vertically all over the place - I‘d say that 20% of the tiles are this colour.I want to reduce all the tiles to one (new) colour.Two guys (both pros) have this to say:GUY 1: Cheapest solution (and least noisy/disruptive) is to use a ‘glass enamel paint‘ over the tiles. - Ok yes you can paint them, and yes it will hold up, and yes i do paint and also install ceramic so i do know what im talking about.You need to clean them very good with TSP. Buy a good primer such as kilz but i think home depot has an even better one so check that out. After you prime it put oon a good interior enamal like Behr . Probable 2 coats for best results. A spong roller is best but if you can rent or borrowe a sprayer and get the best results. there about 40 dollars for the day to rent. easy to use. Just tape everything off and use alot of drop cloths.

- i would probably paint first, that way if you spill paint it doesnt ruin the new tile? or replace the tub and tile first then lay something over the entire floor before you paint and do the rest? hmmm sorry im of no help thats a tough one lol

- There are re-glazing products out there, or professionals who'll do it for you. You find them usually advertised for re-doing tubs, but you can use it on tile too. It's not a true reglazing in that it is still paint, but it's durable enough as long as you stay away from abrasive cleaners. If you do it yourself, make sure you do the following: Clean/scrape all the tile surface and grout lines. Repair lose/damaged tiles. Touch up all the grout to perfection -- let cure. Sand tile; completely and thoroughly clean off dust. Cover/tape off all edges/areas not to be glazed, including any hardware, trim, etc that can't be removed. THEN apply primer, let cure, and then paint. Don't underestimate the power of using quality tools. If you get a professional, the results are almost always better, since they use a sprayer (protecting everything that isn't to be sprayed). It really depends on your area and how much tile you're talking about, but professionally reglazing a tub usually runs around $300, to give you an idea. Call around though.

- Q: I just finished my bathroom but when i used the oil based kilz there was a little spray back that landed on the tile floor.
- Depending on the type of tile you might be able to use a sharp knife (exacto or paring knife) and gently remove the spots. If you have any kind of ceramic tile that would work (in my experience) except perhaps on the grouted areas. If you have grout and the Kilz is in/on the grout you might have to actually scrape some of the grout off and then reseal the grout. Good luck. It's laborious work but it should work. If you have linoleum tile I wouldn't do that because it might remove the finish. The next time you go to the paint dept. at the store ask them how to do it if you haven't solved the problem
