Q: I have extremely hard water, and my water softener has been broken for a few years. There's been quite a decrease in water pressure. I'm assuming this is from hard water deposits in the pipes. Is there anything that can be done about it? Can they be flushed out?If so, do you have any idea of what the cost might be? I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap.
Sweating (soldering) pipe is tricky even at the best of times and even when done by an expert. a) Solder can go bad - but it is obviously so, crumbly and so forth. If he was using shiny plumber's solder that came off the spool normally, it was fine. b) Proper fluxing an cleanliness is the key to good solder joints. If the pipe was not cleaned properly, or if he did not use the correct flux, the process will be an exercise in frustration. My guess is that he may have been using either lead-free solder with old flux, or old lead-based solder with in incompatible flux, or no flux at all. He may also have been using a torch that was burning improperly letting carbon build up on the areas to be soldered, or an old tank of propane that was not allowing the torch to heat properly. 1. Clean the pipes and fittings either with a fitting cleaner, sand-paper, medium steel wool or other method that leaves a bright, shiny contact-surface. 2. Obtain the correct flux and use it liberally on the fitting and the pipe end. 3. Use a good torch with fresh propane - or a Presto-Lite and acetylene - but one that gives a clear, blue flame when in use. 4. Heat the fitting and pipe, not the solder. Work from the fitting to the pipe as you want to draw the solder into the fitting. Move the torch around the fitting occasionally running onto the pipe a bit. 5. Touch the solder to the fitting on the other side from the flame. When you observe the bead form on the fitting all around - STOP THERE. 6. Wipe the completed joint with a cold, wet rag saturated with clean water. This removes the excess flux and sets the fitting. Good luck with it.
Q: can you tell me in each steps
not knowing where these people receive there knowledge,I can tell you that 1 1/2 pvc is 1 1/2 inside dia.and 2 inch pvc pipe is 2 inside diameter if you want to drill a hole for 2 pvc pipe make the hole 2 9/16 now this is sch.40 pvc pipe. sch 3034 is the same ID but uses different fittings because its thinner wall.Your going to have to know the astm number of the pipe to know anything about the actual size (thickness etc)
Q: I want to get a 5mW blue laser pointer, but I know laser pointers can be dangerous so I need to know if there is anything I should know before I get it. Do I need any special goggles or glasses to look at the beam?
I started riding when I was 16. My mother helped me with the loan on my first bike. Like any mother, she didn't like the idea. Life is dangerous in general. You can get badly injured playing most sports. You reduce risk on a motorcycle by: Wearing proper safety equipment. Going through a training school. Acting mature (many accidents are caused by the rider showing off - wheelies etc) Ramping up. Take small rides in low traffic areas until you are comfortable to go farther. Understand how to spot trouble before it happens. This goes beyond basic defensive driving. You should be able to look down a road and predict how traffic is going to react long before it does. I also recommend eliminating rules of the road mindset. By that I mean, forget what the rules are and how cars are supposed to behave according to road laws they don't. Forget laws and think of it more like navigating a small boat down a dynamic stream with moving obstacles. You don't expect objects in a river to follow patterns and laws, you shouldn't expect cars to follow laws and patterns.I see no reason why you can start riding at 16. I was on a minibike at 5. A dirtbike at 12. A streetbike at 16. At some point, you will be tempted to test the bike with speed or manuvering. You will be tempted to show off to friends and or girls. You will be tempted to give your friends rides on the back. You will be tempted to do something out of place like go off road or something. Avoid these temptations as a new rider, as they are how new riders tend to screw up.
Q: The internal and external thread joint is one end with internal thread (G) and one end is external thread (G). What is the standard of this joint?
G is the British characteristic of non hermetic cylindrical thread. The thread tagging you can refer to "metric, American and English standard thread Standard Handbook (Third Edition)".
Q: If you could think of one it would be much appreciatedthanks
crimp much holes tighter, all-ways brass fittings , cinch or crimp on a plastic fitting may cause failure or cracks.not seen until a leak or flooding. I've and done the freeze test on pex with a 2'ft. piece with plugs in the ends, both cinch crimp, plastic fitting brass/ both pex piping swell, but the plastic gave out. use pipe insulation with 3/4 wall like armor flex. check r value on insulation for your area.
Q: this is the kind of work we do, sheetrock, tile, carpet, taxture, painting, fenceing, room addition, some plumbing, some elect.and roofing, paint.
if im putting 2 steel pipe fittings together i always use pipe tape or dope. but if im thredding brass in to steel or the other way around some times i do and some times i dont. i have replaced lots of break air lines on trucks and i try to use tape or dope but some times i dont if its a hurry thing. some times im laying under trucks in the slush and snow when we have a plow truck blow a parking break line and in thoes siutwations pipe tape or dope is the last thing on my mind. im a mechanic at a highway deparment and some times we do what we gotta do when wer in a rush. as long as the lines you replaced did not leek after you wer done you are fine. threding plain brass in to a fitting and you get it tight enough it wont leek and im shure their was still some pipe tape or dope residue in the fitting you put the brass fitting in to. your wer right as long as it did not leek. if they fire you over this that is bs. good luck
Q: Direct connections as shown in Fig.G1/4.If you do not use the card sleeve, can the thread of the card sleeve be directly connected with the internal thread of the G1/4?
Some of the threads at the two ends of the sleeve are the same, but some are not the same. Different types of card sleeve connectors will also make a difference. As shown:
Q: really though, I think I'd have to run outside naked and if my cellphone was not in reach, use a neighbor's phone to dial 911. Talk about a rush. now the people I know cant even say the only thing I own are the clothes on my back. Is this the right thing to do, to not grab anything on your way out?
Rusty's right. Plumber's language usually refers to the hole in the pipe, or inside diameter, so when we mere mortals measure things, we get waylaid on the outside diameter (OD) and get confused. Any hardware store or building center will have a bin full of 1 1/2 SCH 40 PVC tees - just stay away from the lightweight under-the-sink stuff - which fits 1 1/2 OD pipes So it goes. 75% of the 1/2 brass compression fittings I sell get returned, because nominal 1/2 copper pipe is actually 5/8 OD. etc. By the way, for structural/non-plumbing PVC use, there are specialized fittings that are useful, like couplings without a shoulder inside, so they can slide along the pipe, angled tees with a fourth socket on the side (like for the top end of a tent), or even five or six-socket fittings for hubs, etc. Harder to find, but cool.
Q: Please let me know the features of fire blankets?
best leave them alone when you start removing the paint it may be covering a pin hole,
Q: if i want to send in a video of my neighbor piling up beer cans in his backyard and using his riding lawn mower to crush them, repile them, and crush them again, to Bill Engvall at Country Fried Home Videos.do i have to offer my neighbor a cut of the 1000 bucks? Here's Your Sign?
