- Metal started out a sped up punk. Bands like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest created the guidelines of the genre but alot of the California thrash bands were inspired by punk. No though metal doesn't need to have screaming. And no the Misfits aren't metal although Metallica was inspired by them.

- In all honesty I think it has a lot to do with the vocals and some of the instrumentation. A lot of the groups that are considered nu-metal tend to have cleaner vocals. By clean I mean they sing a lot more than traditional metal groups. Nu-metal groups with the exception of maybe Slipknot because of Jordison and his tempo usually aren't quite as fast-paced and don't use as much double bass either. Those are really the only things that stick out between them. However as someone mentioned genre grouping is subjective and there is no clear cut answer. I just see Nu-metal as a intermediate between hard rock and metal. The bands typically placed in this category are badass though (i.e. Slipknot, Korn, Disturbed, SOAD).

- I really liked it when I was younger, but now I'm older and it really gives me a headache! LOL I can't help it, it just does. I suppose it just doesn't suit some folks because they can't hear the words and they don't like the voice they use when they sing. But I still like it.
