- Q:For whatever reason, Mazda has made it next to impossible to change the PCV valve on the 929. I'm going to have to pull off the plenum and the passenger's side valve cover to replace a $2.00 PCV valve. Before I get too involved, I need to know the torque specs for the valve cover. Also, any other tips on this process would be greatly appreciated. Can I reuse the old valve cover gasket if it's still in good shape? Should I use any kind of sealant in addition to the gasket when I put it all back together? Thanks in advance, by looking at this motor, I can tell I'll have my work cut out for me (for a friggin $2.00 PCV valve, it's usually SO simple!). Like I said, any and all help is greatly appreciated.
- you do not torque valve covers down, buy a new gasket , I would get a good quality rubber one and some blue rtv sealer, clean any crap off the valve cover no glue no bits of gasket nothing, same thing on the head surface, glue the gasket on the valve cover, let it set, then carefully put it on, start with the bolts in the middle and work out finger tight all of them, then just snug the bolts down, dont crush the gasket, you can also use a light duty locktite to hold them in place, and often times old valve covers are warped, it is too your advantage to make sure its as flat as you can get it, or spend a few bucks a buy a new one. your choice, but snug the nuts down good with out crushing and bending the thin sheet metal of the valve cover.
- Q:I have 1993 Seville 4.9. I got a new EGR valve but it didn't help. I tested it with vacuum pump, it won't hold pressure at all, same with old one. Is that new EGR valve bad or just different type of EGR that vacuum pump won't work? Thanks!
- Did you get that EGR valve from Cadillac dealership?? A lot of those aftermarket parts DO NOT LIKE Cadillac's!!!!!!!!!! I run into that all the time nor will we use any aftermarket parts due to the problems we have with them. Make sure that switch is working that controls the EGR valve. I have seen those fail also. You need access to a serive manual so you can command that switch on off check with a test light a vacuum gauge to make sure you are getting vacuum to that EGR Valve. Also, make sure that the ports are not clogged up with carbon, even check the pipe inside the throttle body opening, they should be clean inside those tubes !!!!!!!!!

- The last two answers were wrong. Duramax motors have a Pcv valve. It stands for positive crankcase ventilation and every engine has one that I am aware of and it's to relieve the air pressure built up in the crankcase from the pistons moving up and down. The Pcv allows atmospheric air pressure inside then crankcase. If there is a lot of air pressure coming out of the Pcv you could have bad valve seals or worn piston rings allowing massive amounts of air being forced into the crank case. The Pcv valve on 2003 and older have the Pcv built into the valve cover. It is a box shape cap that has a spring and diaphragm under it. Old question just thought I would clear that up for the 2 people not so mechanically inclined that answered last.
