Q: i going to tile my whole house both floors bath room and all with the same tile it is a 20x20 tile diagonally where should i start and does it really matter where ?: Start doing the largest area and do a 1/2 tile on the out side wall. All interior walls are supposed to be layed out to the out side and be square. Now if you have a long visible hall way near by, you may want to split that to get a good look at it from there. Its hard to positively say with out seeing it. I could visualize it then. Since this is a diagonal you cant control to much where the tiles land. Q: We just bought a house and the bathroom tile looks terrible. Its not in bad shape, I just dont like the ugly floral pattern. Since we had to spend a lot of money on other projects in the house we dont have a lot to spend on re-tiling, The bathroom is small, about 5ftx4ft of floor, so I thought peelstick would be a good option. The tiles currently on the floor are peel and stick, should I remove them all before I apply the new ones? or can I just give them a good cleaning and lay the new tiles over them?: Don't use the conventional peel and stick, there's something better. Home Depot has some tiles or planks of vinyl which stick to each other but not the floor, nice patterns, good price and easy to do. All you need is a smooth surface, doesn't matter what kind, to place them on, and there is stuff called embossing leveler which will do that, and you use it to fill in the pattern on the old tiles to avoid what the previous poster mentioned of the old pattern showing through. I have this stuff in most of my house now and it's great.

Q: I got these tiles at a yard sale. They appear to be very old, hand painted and likely of Mexican origin. The label is tattered and faded, but I would love to know more about them. Q: My house is 55 years old. They had vinyl floring in the bathroom. We wanted to replce the flooring but when we hauled up the vinyl, theres 2inch ceremic tiles underneath. I think the vinyl was glued down because the tiles are a mess. We bought some vinyl flooring to put back down. Whats the best way to do this? We were going to but 1/4 round but now the floors are tile underenath, and the walls are tile as well so we can‘t nail it in.: the best thing to do is remove the tiles from the floor. replace the wood under the tiles with marine plywood then put down your vinyl. you might also consider cleaning up the tiles. if they are well stuck down and not broken, you just may like it better than vinyl. granite, tile or marble will add value to your house. these type of floors do not wear out like vinyl. redid my bathroom 2 years ago with granite floors. love it.

Q: I wanted to do wall tiles with them. They are clear but I wanted to add color as well. Any ideas? I love decorating for less. Thank you.: You'd see through the glass to the mounting mastic. That's probably not that attractive......

Q: Is it possiable to stain or paint a ceramic tile floor. If so what are the steps I need to take to do it.We laid it about a year ago. My husband picked it out and it just does not look good next to the other tile he put in. I would hate to rip it out and lay a new one.Would the paint sets you buy at home depot for your garage floors work?: Your tile is most probably a glazed ceramic, meaning no paints would be able to penetrate to the biscuit. This means that all your paint would flake off over time. There is a glue on the market called Optima, and it is made by ABA Ardex. This glue comes in two parts, and it enables you to tile directly over tile. It isn't cheap though, so be weary when doing large areas. Other than that, most flexable glues would work if you remove 80% of the glaze, which means taking a grinder to the floor, which is hard and DIRTY work. If you were to do this, I would reccommend Abaflex.

Q: My husband and I are thinking about putting tile on our front porch. It‘s 10 x 13 roughly size room. Would 6x6 size tiles look better or would 12x12? What do you think?: Only wrong thing you're doing is to assume that the tile makers wouldn't change the size in all these years. A 2 x 4 isn't 2 x 4 any more either. You won't be able to hide it. If you don't mind looking at it then continue on. If you can't stand how it looks then you should replace the whole floor.

Q: making a counter top from spare tile pieces: Prep your counter to meet tile standards, Each one can be different so with out knowing what yours is I cant say there. You ll need to figure what you want to do with the edge to trim it out. You can use a tile bull nose or a wood trim. Spread the needed glue, usually a thin set , over a small area. Then you can break tiles , ( very carefully) with a hammer or a pair of tile nippers. I use tile nippers to create the piece effect. These methods are called rubble effect. You ll need a honing stone to hone the tile edges so they are not sharp. Set into the wet glue, don t let it skim over or become dry. Grout as needed depending on what type of tile you use. Q: Hi, I am thinking about placing vinyl wood planks over the existing ceramic tile in my house and I wanted to know if it‘s possible. The tile isn‘t completely level due to the grout and obviously not all the tiles are exactly the same height down to the millimeter. I wanted to know 1. Is it possible to install vinyl wood plank over ceramic tile, 2. If so how level the tile floor has to be, 3. How would I go about leveling the floor, with an underlayment or with some sort of mortar, 4. If I use an underlayment do I still need to use the mortar to level the tile?Thank you.: I would not lay vinyl over ceramic tile, especially if the tile isn't even. It will wear the tile out faster, and the tile won't look good over any surface that is not level. Remove the tile, then lay down some 1/2 underlayment plywood--or once the tile is removed, (and all the grout) and the floor is revealed, you may be able to lay the vinyl down over what's underneath. You can't put underlayment over the tile either because it has to be nailed down, and that extra layer will add nearly an inch to your floor--making any transition to other rooms uneven.

Q: The hammer took a chip out of one tile, the chip is about the size of a pencil eraser. I‘m just heartbroken as we just had this tile installed 12 days ago! Is there any way to fix this- short of replacing the tile? I‘ve already bought a rug that will cover the hole but I‘d still like to fix it if I can. Just in case we ever would like to go without a rug. Thank you!!!: short of replacing the tile, you might try super gluing the chip back into the tile. but thats about all you can do.
