Q: I'm having the kitchen done and are having plasterboards put up 'cos the plaster that is on at the moment is so old, dry and flaking off in large peices. Just wondered if these walls will be strong enough to hold up my wall units. Pleeeeeaaase let me know.
How are the boards being fitted on battens or dot and dab?Either way you can use cavity fixings if there is sufficient space behind the plaster board ( I use the brolly type)whatever you do dont use those stupid corkscrew things they wont take the weight. If there is very little gap then the normal plugs and screws will do just make sure to use long enough screws(size matters)I normally use a size 10 screw and vary the length accordingly and dot and dab the same plugs and screws. It may also pay to fit a spacer behind the screw through the pasterboard to the wall to stop boards distorting but without seeing the job its hard to tell the best for your application.
Q: Black mirror attached to the wall above the wall is 2.8 meters long 0.37 wide, can live it, hang the glue with the marble, the mirror with a gypsum board to do the following and the mirror almost thick bottom, but also to catch, ? Similar to the L line gypsum board on the mirror
The base of the lens is preferably sandwich, or the base of the nine-board. This is the standard base material. In the paper gypsum board on the lens, the actual is also posted, but theoretically is not possible. Keep the room dry. The bottom with a care can be better.
Q: can i wallpaper over a plasterboard?
Plain, ,just installed, raw plasterboard? I would think that would be fine. If it's painted, you might need to rough it up a little. If it's papered, you should probably remove the existing paper.
Q: Is gypsum board cracking related to the weather?
If this weather can be cracked, indicating poor quality.
Q: I have just put plasterboard up in my kitchen, covering the walls behind my sink and cooker. I was going to tile behind said areas, but then didn't know if the adhesive would affect the plasterboard?Should I consider some sheet material like MDF which has a tile effect routed into it to drill on top of the plasterboard? Or maybe some vinyl tiles to just stick on top of the plasterboard?
Did you use actual plasterboard, or gypsum board, (also known as gyp rock)? Anyway, if you put up the normal gyp rock, and have taped and smoothed on the proper joint compound, then the only thing left that is important before tiling a back splash, is to prime the surface with primer paint. Now in kitchens and baths you should be using moisture resistant gyp rock. Sometimes called green board (because it's green in colour) or the moisture, and mould resistant gyp rock that is sometimes called blue board (because it is blue in colour). However, if you have already used the standard beige or grey coloured gyp rock, don't panic, and rip it all down. It might be better to just leave well enough alone. You are just going to have to take a little more care to protect the gyp rock surface from water when you are done. First make sure your primer paint is the mold resistant type like Kilz. Then you should be able to tile your back splash using the recommended adhesive, grout, and seal. After that make sure that you caulk around where the tiled back splash meets your countertop. This is important because any water that gets into the gyp rock behind will get damaged and promote the growth of mould, and eventually your lovely tile will fall off where the damage occurs. If you regularly inspect and maintain your caulk lines (about once a year) then you shouldn't have any problem.
Q: We have all steel frames in our house and we were wondering how to locate the framework behind the walls so we can hang up big items, like our dryer and a big mirror safely. We have tried tapping the wall to locate the frame but there is no difference in the sound.
Have you tried a stud finder? They can read metal near the surface or do a deeper scan. You can find one at any hardware store or even walmart. It will read the edges of the steel frames in the wall then you can lightly mark these readings with chalk. I am not sure how you plan on hooking fasteners into a steel frame? You may want to ask the pro at home depot or Lowes for some advice.
Q: Gypsum board, across the wall, can be installed in a wall above the shelves, shelves to put a book, and will put a lot of books, can this?
Can, but the requirements of the keel on the wall must be more, it is best to add a plate back,
Q: What is the difference between PVC paper gypsum board and veneer gypsum board?
First, the price of the former than the latter, Second, the former waterproof, the latter is not waterproof
Q: Can you tape and plaster joints only on plasterboard? IE not skim whole room?
By plasterboard I assume you mean drywall. Yes you can tape and finish only the joints and screw holes. It is rare in my area for anyone to skimcoat the whole wall.
Q: how much to charge when putting up plasterboard. per sheet?
The last time I paid someone to hang drywall, it was about $19 a sheet and included finishing. That is in the state of NC. Probably lower now with the economy.
