- Q: hello I intend on insulating and plaster boarding my shed soon. However I am not entirely sure of the best way to plasterboard onto a metal frame, because I do not want screws poking out of the board because you cannot nail into metal obviously. So I was wondering do most people use only liquid nails or how else is the board applied to the frame? I heard you can put small pieces of wood between the frame and the board then nail to the wood, is this a good technique? advice and opinions would be much appreciated thanks
- use bolts. plaster and paint over to hide them. get the rounded, covered nuts to go on the outside of the shed.

- Yes, you can use fireproof plasterboard
- Q: What distance do the dry wall screws have to be and what do i fill the joint gaps with before plastering. Is there a british standard ?
- I would nail it with sheetrock nails.......but if you are pounding on someone else's half of the wall I would use sheet rock screws. You can put one in about every 8 across a stud. Try not to break the paper. For the joints instead of paper tape I use fiberglass self sticking tape.........it's usually blue or yellow and mud right over it. If you are going to plaster it well that's the same tape but a little different application of the mud. I just hand texture the mud and do a knock down trowel finish.......it looks nice.......and is fairly simple to do.

- Q: So, I accidently flooded my bath. The skirting boards around the sink and wood that boxes around the sink have become damp which has now dried out but the wood has cracked and I suppose that it's become warped. Now, I'm not sure how to deal with this as this wood is attached to the plasterboard wall. By removing this wood and replacing it I fear that I might damage the plasterboard wall.Any advice on how to tackle this? I kind of want some advice before I look into calling someone out
- I had the same problems when renovating an old house. Your best option would be to use an impact adhesive such as 'No more nails'. At first, I had mixed results and found it best to support the skirting while the adhesive is drying. Nail a block to the floor close to the skirting and tap a wedge into the gap. Repeat roughly every six feet - works a treat.
- Q: We have all steel frames in our house and we were wondering how to locate the framework behind the walls so we can hang up big items, like our dryer and a big mirror safely. We have tried tapping the wall to locate the frame but there is no difference in the sound.
- Have you tried a stud finder? They can read metal near the surface or do a deeper scan. You can find one at any hardware store or even walmart. It will read the edges of the steel frames in the wall then you can lightly mark these readings with chalk. I am not sure how you plan on hooking fasteners into a steel frame? You may want to ask the pro at home depot or Lowes for some advice.
- Q: Inside is plasterboard and outer is stucco. How?
- Well first make sure there are no electrical wires in the wall where you will be drilling. Then rent a Hammer Drill from Home Depot, along with a bit that is long enough to go through the wall. I would drill from the outside inward as the plasterboard can be repaired easier than the stucco. Go easy or you'll mess the stucco up. If you plan on installing a cable connection outlet in the wall I would cut the hole for it first. That way you can check the inside of the wall and not worry about breaking through from the outside drilling. This assumes that you can line up your outside hole and the inside wall box hole..... measure twice cut once. Once the hole is in then install the wall box etc.... While you are at HD pick up some sealer for inserting around the cable that you stick through the wall. It's known as Monkey Sh.. by the folks who do this type of work so ask one of the old hands at the store.

- As already stated, plaster is the way to go, just make sure you score the inside of the dent with a knife. This will allow the compound to stick better.

- Q: I live in a flat and have constant leaks coming through my ceiling, there is a flat above me. The problems had previously came from the guttering on the roof not being cleaned properly and when it rained the water would leak in to the flat throught the ceiling and electrical sockets. The ceiling is plasterboard and my landlord doesnt seem to be fixing the problem properly, when they do come in they let it dry put a skim of poly filer over bits thast are coming off and repaint over it... even though you can still see the lines of the plasterboard coming through. Does anyone know how my landlord should be doing this properly so i can get this sorted as it hasnt been raining and i know have leaks again this morning with bubbles in the ceiling.
