- Well, proto-metal isn't technically a genre, but proto-metal bands are basically the bands that started to bring together the elements of blues, rock, etc. that influenced the beginning of the metal genre. Bands like Zeppelin and Deep Purple are very good examples and Black Sabbath is the best example as they are, for the most part, widely considered the first truly metal band.

- It's the Leaves' Eyes one. Evanescense isn't metal. Leaves Eyes has a lot of gothic metal influence in their music. Evanescense has a much more goth rock type of feel. There's not that much of a difference, but to me, the Leaves Eyes one is heavier and just has that metal feel.

- Alternative Metal is related to Nu Metal, there's no denying it. In fact many Alternative Metal bands were direct influences on Nu Metal, Faith No More, Primus, and Helmet to name a few Alt. Metal bands who were massive influences on Nu Metal. I'd say System of a Down is an example of an Alternative Metal band that sometimes get labelled as Nu Metal, although it could be argued that they're Nu Metal, their music is more in line with Alt. Metal, some of Mike Patton's work in Faith No More and Mr. Bungle is a huge influence on their music and it's more apparent than it is in most Nu Metal.
- Q: What is the difference between death, black, and doom metal?
- Metallica released a whole album of symphonic metal - it's called SM, which has a lot of arrangements of their classic songs. It's actually the only metallica album I like, I can't listen to their original tracks because I want to hear the orchestra parts! Some other symphonic metal bands are within temptation, edenbridge, sonata arctica and even evanescence on occaision - they have a track called lacrymosa which lifts music directly from Mozart's lacraemosa from his requiem.

- The metal scene in LA is big and diverse. - A little black metal. Majority is thrash and heavy metal. - I'm Asian. - Huntington Beach California. Very near LA. - I guess for the1st and no for the 2nd. Theres plenty of metal fans out there.

- Nu-Metal as in Not-Metal?, even bad Grunge is better than that crap. It's like when you were a kid and they put 'New' on the front of your favourite Saturday Morning cartoon show, which meant they had changed the voices, the theme music and added pointless annoying new characters and it just wasn't funny anymore. That's how I feel about Nu-Metal.
