- Q: I want to insulate under the floor, there is a crawlspace, and I'm wondering if this is a good idea or will it trap moisture against the wood floorboardsAlso, it gets really hot in the attic in summer and i wanted to insulate the roofThe ceiling (floor of the attic) is already well insulated.
- Sure under the floor, between the joists, and then put a vapor barrier up against the insulationThat way no moisture will enter the insulation from below As for the attic, it is suppose to be hot up there, and there are either soffit vents that allow air to circulate up into the attic or vents on the gable ends(depends on roof type) that does the same thingThis circulation keeps the house cool in the summer and warmer in the winter Insulating the roof will lead to quicker dry rot of the wood.
- Q: My wife and I bought a lemon of a house a year backIt seems it is incredible hard, and costly, to keep the house cool in the summer and warm in the winterHow can you tell if your home has been insulated? If it has not, is foam insulation the best, or only, option?
- Easiest: First take the covers off the switch/outlet boxes, alot of times you can see into the wall around theseIt will be a small slit around the box so the viewing isn't great but it's a place to startSome of the electrical boxes you might be able to see pretty good, others very littleSecond: You also could take a few pieces of trim off around some windows and doors, you should be able see some or possible create a slightly larger opening to see better but don't go bigger than what the trim will cover back upThis may work on some of the doors/windows, depends on the width of the trim and the framingFor adding insulation to an existing home the easiest is to blow it in from the outsideIn between each stud space they will make an 1-1/2 to 2 round hole and blow it in through the holeThey have small plugs to pop back in to cover the holes when doneIt is not always the best and can be time consuming but it is better than nothingWe are in WI and it is frequently done in the older homesDown the road if you plan on siding the home have them add sytrofoam sheets before putting on the sidingA major heat lost for a home is the atticMake sure you have adequate insulation in the attic; examples; fiberglass batts-you should have two layers, loose fill such as fiberglass(pink/white chunks) or cellulose (gray) you should have at least 12+.
- Q: I am on a high fiber dietI am 16 and 5ft 5in and weigh about 185lbs (fat i know)I do about 30-45min of exercise a day (since December)I probably eat well over 35g of fiber a day because i heard it would help me loose weight, but in fact i have started to gain a few poundsI really want to get healthy and loose weight but i dont know what im doing wrongHELP!
- Oxygen is another and AlO I believe is the most common bonded aluminum you will find.
- Q: It is to be blown in fiberglass insulationHow thick should it be for R-38 vsR50? We have 20 foot and 10 foot ceilings, and recessed ceiling fixturesWe live in KentuckyAlso, does blown-in fiberglass insulation lose its R-value over time? Is there other factors or suggestions on getting the best insulation installation possible?
- Every insulation product has on its packaging labels the specifications for achieving various R values, based on thickness and densityOnly way you can find out how much to install for an R-50, which is probably overkill in your area, by the way, is to look at the bag the insulation is shipped inAlso, the installer should be tacking the R value chart from the bag on an upright framing member somewhere near the attic opening, so in the future anyone else would know what product was installed and how much insulation was placedAgain-each product is diffferent, has different R values, so only that product's bag can tell you what you need to know If it says you need 12 inches for an R 50, for example, then you should be able to take a yardstick up there and measure and see an average of 12 inches down to the sheetrock on the ceiling.
- Q: I buy a lot of high-fiber breakfast cerealTo save money, where can I buy high fiber breakfast cereal in bulk? By high-fiber I mean around 35% - 60%, similar to what the Fiber One cereals offer (a similar taste would be great as well).
- Usually they will jack it up, and replace the tires if possibleBut if there is a considerable amount of damage; Now I kid-u-not, sometimes they will attach giant balloons to the aircraft to lift it off the ground and move it to where they can work on it.
- Q: i have seen jeans that are sooo expensive, and others that cheaperAre there really any diferences? please, educate me in this topic
- Yes - Obama and every other US president should have better security than thisWho knows what kind of chaos would break out if somebody assassinated Obama? Who knows what kind of National Security State crackdown on every kind of political dissent - right, left and center - might happen if Obama or any other POTUS were assassinated these days? One of the huge strengths of the USA, whatever our other faults, is our elected form of government and our regular elections, even if the political process is grossly distorted on every point in the political spectrum by corporate money and big campaign donorsIf someone gets through White House security and kills or seriously wounds a sitting president, that huge source of legitimacy for our system is badly erodedThe Secret Service has a duty to prevent that from happening- democratic socialist / support Obama as lesser evil compared to the GOPbut I wouldn't have wanted anyone to assassinate George Bush, either.
- Q: i made yarn from cotton balls, i have no carders so this was the only way i could do iti add cotton balls as i am goingbut i hand spun them and then put the new yarn into a knitting spooland i keep going around the spool until a cannot anymoreso then i put the yarn into a balland keep going until i am finishedthis is my first time spinning yarnit was not all evensome parts were very small and other parts were bigbut i colored it and am waiting for it to drybut is this a smart way to spin yarn? is there any pros/consplease help!!!
- My grandparents always put pineapple over the top and put some kind of glaze? Good luck!
- Q: I'm working on a crochet scarf for a Christmas present and I would like to place a patch on itThe patch is about 3quot; across and roundIt's a Jack Skellington patch, just the faceI've never put a patch on yarn crafts before so I'm not sure how to even beginShould I get an iron-on or a stitch only patch? How do I prepare the scarf for the patching and if I need a stitch only patch, how should I go about sewing it?
- You shouldn't use an iron on patch, it won't work as it does on fabric, and ironing will cause the yarn to 'melt.' Sew the patch on by hand, using a blanket stitch, and with heavy duty thread (like hand-quilting thread) or with DMC embroidery thread (the kind used for cross-stitching)You can use an iron-on if the picture on it doesn't come in a stitch-on one; just sew it on the same way
- Q: I want to put recycled blue jeans from a co called Bonded Logic but I cannot seem to find out what the costs are for my attic that is 30' by 30' by 20' height (it is a pyramid shape)Serious answers only! I have breathing problems and cannot use standard insulationPlus we are going green.
- Hello: Blue jeans are made of cotton/polyester blend; I don't know what the R-value per inch is of this material, but I would guess that it is similar to fiberglass, but denserI'm surprised that they won't give you a quoteYou should only need to provide them with the area to be covered, and your target R-value (20 to 30 is good) You can use conventional insulations with a breathing issue; you just can't install it yourselfI would guess that the recycled jeans insulation is the same; you can't install it yourself, but I am not familiar with the installation of this product AFAIK, fiberglass is green, tooI remember seeing an ad in the 70s for insulation made from treated newspaperI doubt the fireproofing chemicals they use are greenDo you know if the jeans stuff is fire-retardant, and what is used to make it fire-retardant? Best of luck!
