- Q: I laid my brand new 2014 Ninja 300 and it broke the shifter lever off of the rear peg bracket. The bracket was actually the part that broke. I am having troubles figuring out how to take off the peg from the old bracket. How do you take off the peg? How do I disconnect the broken piece of the bracket off of the shifter? Also, if I can get any tips on changing the left handlebar then that would be extremely appreciated.
- The foot peg pivots on a pin. The pin goes through the foot peg and spring. The pin is held in place with a cotter pin at the rear of the pin. Spread open the cotter pin and pull it out of the pin. Grab the looped end of the cotter pin with a pair of diagonal pliers (wire cutters) and pry the cotter pin out. Before removing the pin, take note as to how the spring is held in the foot peg. Draw a picture or take a picture with a camera. Using a drift or punch or a phillips head screw driver the same diameter (or thinner) as the pin, hit the pin out through the foot peg. Installation - place the spring on the foot peg. Push the foot peg into place (the spring will start to get pressed). Using the phillips head screw driver, force it up through the foot peg bracket and foot peg, through the spring, and out through the foot peg and bracket. Using a hammer, slowly hit the pin down through the bracket, peg and spring.The pin will push the screw driver out. Use the screw driver to pry every thing into position for the pin to go through. When finished installing the pin, install a new cotter pin and spread the open ends to secure it. Spread the open ends to secure it. I don't understand your problem with the shift lever. If you can't figure that out, you shouldn't be working on your bike. Take the shift lever off the bracket - remove the allen head bolt. Unbolt the bracket from the frame. The wire is sort of threaded through the brackets, and on top of that on each bracket the colours are put on. They're there to make sure the wire doesn't go out of place. But don't worry, this doesn't mean the brackets go mouldy or anything :P
