Be sure to replace it with a good one, because the cheap plastic ones only seem to last two or three years. Your faucet isn't glued to the countertop, it's just attached via two or three plastic nuts. You have to get directly below the faucet (where the water connections are) and you should see what you need to remove to get the old faucet off. There is a special wrench called a basin wrench that you can use or you can just use some pliers. They can be very tight and hard to remove though since you won't have much room.
