- Q: I have a 1 yr old Male, fixed, cat. He's never given me ANY problems. except lately he's been urinating on the bathroom rug.. Well, it sounds worse than it really is.. he did it once, then I washed the rug.. it was clean for a day.. then he peed on it once again. There are NO other cats in the house, the litter box IS in the bathroom. I can not scold him or correct the behavior because of the amount of time lapsed when he's gone on the rug. So he wouldn't know what he's being corrected for ( I was in Dog training) This is his only vice. :( Please help!
- I was told several things about the rug peeing. The rubber on the backing attacks the cat and has a smell for them to pee? We close our bathroom doors. Sometimes if we forget we get a surprise. Other issues may be UTI or bladder infection. Also you should have 1 cat box per cat and 1 extra over 2 cats. Scoop daily! Also your cat can be punishing you whatever pissed it off that day. Keep the door closed.

- We recently did 2 rooms approximately 10x13 each We bought the padding at Lowe's and the carpet at Home Depot, it is very nice. Like a Berber. Cost a little over 300 dollars. Had someone lay it for us, that cost 50 dollars. Good Luck!!!!

- Q: My carpet was just cleaned and is already dirty...it shows everything! I don't want to have to get down on my hands and knees to spot clean (the entire carpet constantly needs cleaning!) and I cant afford to pay a carpet cleaner every week. Is there like a carpet shampooing/cleaning machine you can buy for around 100 dollars or ANYTHING I can do? Thanks!
- Aside from the before mentioned don't wear shoes in the house... I sprinkle my carpets with baking soda. It not only neutralizes odor, but it does pick-up some dirt as well. I also wet the brush roller of my vacuum when I vacuum everyday...I use regular old shaving cream not gel to spot clean any serious stains and blot with a towel to dry... You can also buy Resolve foam for high traffic areas that you spray, work into carpet with a brush and vacuum... That's about all the tips I can think of....Oh yeah in the high traffic areas by doors if you can put a rug down.....

- Dear Dawn, You don't say whether or not this is a throw rug or wall to wall carpeting. First of all your cat may a urinary tract infection, very common in male cats in which case he needs to see a vet. If this is not the problem then he may be upset about something or someone. In any case if it's a throw rug, you may try to wash it, but I have found that replacing it works alot better. In the case of wall to wall carpeting you can try one on the commercial pet stain and odor products. Personally I have used Nature's Secret and Urine Gone, which I can no longer find, and follow the directions. Hope this help you.
- Q: The floor is pretty beat up in some of the rooms and between having a baby and preparing for a deployment I don't know if we're going to be able to fix it properly in the near future so I want to prevent further damage with rugs and runners.Anyway, I want to put runners and rugs down in the heavy traffic areas. Couple of questions:Do you know of a good store/website that has matching rugs and runners for reasonable prices?Also, we plan to put the runners on stairs ourselves, which are all wood also (they are straight and all the stairs are uniform in size so it shouldn't be a problem ... it's a three-story-house) but we were wondering if we can just buy a runners to do this or do we have to buy special runners specifically made for staircases? - I think you should keep your dark wood furniture. It'd be a waste just to buy new things when you already have them. If it just does't look right paint the walls a colour that would make your furniture and floors go good together. Try adding some accessories that match your furniture and floors and keeps the focus of anything that doesn't match. Hope you find your answer!
