FAQ

Is it best to go for a more powerful vacuum cleaner?

The power of a vacuum cleaner’s motor is measured in Watts. The higher the Wattage the better it will clean, as long as the machine is well designed with good air flow and suction power too. However, the higher the wattage, the noisier the machine will be. With upright vacuum cleaners. you don’t need to have so much wattage or suction power as you do with a cylinder cleaner as the dirt has less distance to travel before it reaches the bag or dust container. The type of brushes are more of an important consideration with uprights than the power. You don’t always want to have a vacuum cleaner operating at full power for example, when cleaning upholstery or curtains, so it’s useful to be able to adjust the power level yourself.

Which attachments should I look out for?

Most vacuum cleaners come with three attachments, a crevice tool, upholstery and dusting brushes and a small head which is best for vacuuming stairs. You can also get additional turbo brushes which have their own motor for extra suction which are useful for cleaning deep-pile carpets or a power cleaning head which has electrically powered rotating brushes. A hard-floor or parquet brush is useful for wooden or tiled floors. Some cleaners have extendable tubes which are useful for hard to reach areas like cobwebs in the corners of ceilings.

I have a large house? What should I look out for?

Look for a cleaner with a large cleaning head – this will help cut down the amount of time it takes to vacuum a room. Also get as long a lead as you can get to cut down on the number of times you have to unplug the lead and plug it in again. You may also want to consider getting a model with a large capacity dust collector or bag so that you don’t have to empty it as frequently. If you have a lot of stairs, you may want to get a cylinder model with a long stretchy stair-cleaning hose.

Q:I found Philips do a bagless 375 air watt suction vacuum cleaner, does anyone know of any other brands which do a higher air watt suction bagless vacuum cleaner?not intersted in bagged vacuum cleaners, there a waste of money. Thanksand not dyson, they max out at a misely 250 or so air watt suction.

Q:It's gross, but there is a ton of human hair and a bit of pet hair on our floors. We've used several different vacuums, but the hair wraps around the roller and it doesn't pick up anything. Can you recommend a vacuum that will not get tangled?
With okorder /
Q:I have a one-year old and lots of crumbs on my floor that our vacuum won't pick up. We currently have a bag less Bissell and I hate it. We've replaced all the filters and cleaned it but it still hardly picks up a thing. It leaves little hair balls on our carpet and kicks dust back in the air. I have to open the windows every time I vacuum so we can breathe! We're looking to get a new vacuum and I am interested in any brand and reviews you can recommend. My parents have had an Electrolux for 10+ years and it works great. However, the price tag ($500) is a little much for me. I'd also rather not go bag less again. Any suggestions?
I have a Dyson and wouldn't recommend it. Lots of money for a cheap piece of plastic. The brush doesn't get into the carpet, just skims the surface. As far as suction goes, I have a kenmore that does a better job and contains the dust. The Dyson dust catcher is messy to empty and dust flies wherever you empty it. Also, the Dyson requires constant maintenance in removing pet hair attached to the brush and through the chambers. Hair and dust don't always make it to the chamber. If you have any problems with the Dyson, (mine broke after 6 months of use) you have to send it off and wait 4 - 6 weeks for it's return. My suggestion to you is buy a hepa filtered vacuum with or without bags. You'll save money and get a better built product.
Q:what are the faults that occur in a vacuum cleaner how to rectify them ? esp. when its not getting start .i think it contains a dc motor (but of what type i dont know).thanks in advance
given your level of knowledge about vacuum cleaners my best advice would be throw away the broken one and buy a new one. But let's say you decided not to take that advice. Then take the broken machine to a professional repairman. Let's say you didn't want to do that either. First let me warn you again that one of the first two solutions are your best bet. So you can't afford a new vacuum cleaner or to pay someone else to fix it. Ok. Unplug it from the wall. Check the plug and power chord carefully. Look for anything broken or bent. Replace any broken, bent or worn parts. By the way, make sure the outlet is functional. Take something you know is working and plug into the same outlet. If the working item does not work in that particular outlet then the outlet is broken. If the forgoing did not fix the machine then you really, really need to go with the first or second suggestion. If you can't then you have to open up the machine and see if you can find out anything wrong with the innards. Before doing that, check the vacuum hose, intake and filter. Make sure that none of these is clogged or broken. Replace any broken parts and clear any clogs. If you have to open up the machine then we are out of my depth. Yes I could tell you that after you make very, very, VERY, certain that the damn thing is not plugged into the wall, use a volt ohm meter to check the continuity of the wires and replace any broken ones. But if you don't know what a volt ohm meter is, you need to give this project up before hurt yourself.
Q:What are the best reasonably priced HEPA air filters out there? Is it best to get one that attached to a furnace (but then its only running when the heat or AC is on) or a few smaller ones and move them room to room? Also, I understand that it is imprtant to try and vacuum with a HEPA vacuum. Any advice on something out there that is reasonably priced (and reasonably priced filters). For both, I want to get something that is not too cheap (ie something that actually works) but not top of the line (I am not running a hospital.. just want to increase the quality of the air we breathe at home.
All vacuums blow debris returned into the air as they sparkling. If airborne dirt and dirt and allergic reactions are a component for then you you certainly will maximum actual prefer to purchase a vacuum that has HEPA Filtration. HEPA filtration advantageous factors a thoroughly sealed airflow device that removes ninety 9.7% of debris .3 micrometers in diameter or larger. i for my area might advise a Dyson vacuum, the two the Dyson DC15 The Ball Animal, Dyson DC15 The Ball All flooring or Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless. They paintings wonders and supposedly by no skill lose suction. in accordance to the Dyson shopper service guy that I spoke to, the air that comes out of the vacuum is 150X cleanser than the air that is going in.
Q:We are looking into buying a new vacuum, I are newly married I really don't know what a good vacuum is since I don't have much experience taking care of a home by myself. Our price range is $0-$200. We live in apartments so the carpet is low grade and we don't have much storage. I wanted something compact, has a hose so I can vacuum around the sofa. I also don't really want to buy online since most vacuums cost $20s in shipping. What is your opinion is the best vacuum and is there any other features that I might want that I don't know I want? lol. Thanks a bunch!
Don't believe the hype on Dyson vacuum cleaners. Although a fantastic vacuum cleaner, they are well overpriced. You are really buying the brand name. The Dyson Ball is the most maneuverable vacuum cleaner on the market. Its very light weight therefore has problems extracting dirt. Very poor performing from that perspective. Even consumer reports ranks Dyson vacuum cleaners low. Last month I actually purchased a DC-17 and Hoover Windtunnel + Cyclonic to test. The Hoover Windtunnel + Cyclonic outperformed the Dyson on a dense frieze carpet. The Hoover was mainly better at extracting dust from the carpet. I believe the Hoover Windtunnel + Cyclonic still sells for about $195.00.
Q:What are everybody's opinions on the Kirby G3/G4/G5/G6/UG/DE/SE/SE II vacuum cleaners/carpet shampooers?
Agreed. Owned one...switched to Rainbow. Cost is high on the Kirby, but it's rated at being best in its' category...for vacuuming. I didn't like how cumbersome it was to use, or having to empty bags. Rainbow has several attachments, too...but all the dirt goes into the water trap, and you just pour it out when finished. Egad...it's gross and great, all at the same time. Great for allergies, and there are air cleaner/fresheners included. As you clean, the Rainbow will scent or clean the air. Read more about it, and you might like it better than the Kirby. Either one will require fussing between attachments...but having had both, I'll never go back to Kirby. Carpet cleaner WAY much hassle. Better to rent a cleaner, as needed, than to take up space storing a unit you seldom use. Hope this helped. It's quite an investment.
Q:is there a way i can get him out or he is pretty much dead? he went up thru the tube extention thingy while i was vacuuming on accident so help me please
How would you vacuum up a snake, usually your snake should be in the cage rather than running around the house. If this does happen to be serious, I would try to open the vacuum and open the bag where all the dust and what not goes into.
Q:My old vacuum cleaner is slowing breaking down. I've been looking around at new vacuum cleaners and everyone talks about how good the Dyson vacuum is. Is it worth it?
I have a Dyson Animal. I just bought it 3 months ago. I have two very hairy dogs and it does wonders on the carpet! When I got it I vacuumed the carpet with the old vacuum and then I did it again right away with the Dyson and you wouldn't believe how much stuff that dyson picked up. I love love love it. Best investment ever for me.
Q:My two kids have asthma and doctor says we have to vacuum everyday using a vacuum cleaner that has hepa filters. We are a busy couple and currently have an old dyson that we use once a week at the most (and I doubt it has hepa filtration). My wife's friend recommended getting a robot vacuum cleaner for the job. Has anyone else used robot vacs and has good tips/suggestions? Do they do a good job cleaning? Any advice is appreciated! thanx
You okorder , most of the top iRobot Roomba's has HEPA filters.
