- Q:it's square shaped 12x12 with a grill. Right next to the deck and with a view of the ocean. The house is grey-blue
- A view of the ocean! You are so lucky. I am guessing that the patio is a red brick color? I think all eyes should be on the ocean, lounging in a couple very comfortable chairs with a little table. The Pottery Barn has some really nice looking outdoor wicker and if you put some neutral color cushions on them like a sandy beige, or a pale grey. An outdoor rug to go over the red cement to make it look like an outdoor room would look great also. A couple of potted plants and you have an outdoor living space. Enjoy! I have woods and trees, but no ocean.
- Q:I have a patio that is half cement and half open space. I want to put cement blocks/slabs in the open space. I've had mulch and rock; however, I am tired of that look. I was told I could not cement the open space because it will crack in the future so I am wondering if I can put sand under cement slabs/blocks in the open space. Someone suggested I put white rock, but I want a flat surface so that my niece and play back there. Any suggestions, please?
- You are going have to put some form of bedding like crushed stone under the sand first sand itself won't do the job as for cement that won't do either using concrete is the preferred method again laying on a bedding of crushed stone you don't specify the area you want to cover over so all I can say is you will need to excavate the area firstly to a depth of 6 inches minimum that will allow for 2 inches of crushed stone a weed blocker/plastic sheeting 2 inches of sand and cement dry mix and using a slab 2 inches deep to rest on there. Also a slight slope will need to be made to allow surface water run away from house and not be allowed flow back towards your patio. If you decide to use concrete again cut out 6 inches of ground and 3 inches of crushed stone weed blocker and a concrete slab when pouring concrete try to keep it semi dry,too much water is not good as when concrete drys it shrinks and can cause cracking later,I don't think you would have to re-inforce it as you won't be using the car on there ok.
- Q:what is the difference between concrete and cement and stuco?
- Same thing, different texture and application of it on cinder-block and stucco. Some cement is rough, though, to be used for a walk so it is not slippery.
- Q:While cleaning out the garage of a home I recently bought, I found a sealed unlabeled tub with a cement (or concrete) mixture inside. Is there a way to tell if it is Portland, Quickrete, Sakrete, or whatever? Thanks.
- If it's a concrete or mortar mix; it is what it is. It doesn't sound as if it's only portand cement which would be almost white. If it's in a tub and not a sack, it might be something like DryLok for sealing a masonry wall. Check to see if your basement walls have a sandy texture; this may be the leftover.
- Q:I am installing chainlinnk fence 4' high and I am traying to figure how much cement is needed per post? I am putting them about 15quot; deep.
- Back in my younger years I built fences for a living. We cemented in the corner and end post completely as they were the most important. You don't want them to move when you start stretching the chain link. As for the line post in most cases we drove them in and maybe capped them with a few inches to prevent grass from growing around the post and in some cases we didn't cement them at all. The line post are there to just hold the fence up. When you stretch the chain link the line post will be pulled in line with the corner or end post so the need to cement them isn't the same. Ultimately we built the fence the way the customer wanted it built. If he or she wanted the post cemented that's what we did. For your project you have to take into account your comfort level and do what you are comfortable with. Just a note: you mentioned your depth was 15, it is pretty important to make sure your post and the cement (unless it is just a cap to prevent grass from growing) is below the frost line. If it isn't you run a chance they will move over time. Where I lived at the time our frost line was 18 but where I live now it's 12. Good Luck with your project
- Q:i just cleaned the room in my house that's been rejected by every family member because of the carpet. i think it used to be white...anyway, i took a peek under the carpet to see if there was wood or cement under it.it was cement.now i need some VERY detailed instructions for preparing the cement so that the tiles will stick to it without getting air bubbles stuck under them.
- Cement must be very clean of all dirt ,dust and oils. All small holes ( usually from when you take up the tack strips from the carpet) must be filled to have a smooth flat floor... Get the layout you want..This usually means starting from the middle and working towards the walls and getting the largest piece possible .. Sometimes you have to shift the tile over by 1/2 tile to get a larger piece along a wall.. Dont just lay a pc down, set it on the edge and slowly lean it down to set it in place. This so it will go down as flat as possible You don t say if this is a self stick tile or a glue down.. Glue down you should really use a 100# roller and roll the floor after to both get all air bubbles out and work the tiles into the glue. Some self stick tile are to light weight to use a heavy roller like this so by walking on them or even a rolling pin you can work the tiles down and get air bubbles out. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar..GL
- Q:We have an awkward spot in our basement heading down the stairs. We barely have enough spaace to bring bigger items down. We would like to put a 3/4 drywall and glue it to the wall. Is this possible? Can I just use liquid nails?
- Maybe you could get away with 1/4 drywall instead if space is tight. They do have liquid nails for that application, I think. Another option rather than drywall, might be an inexpensive prefinished beadboard. It's about $15 at homedepot or menards. The reason I suggest that is because if the small space is hard to move things through, the drywall will get dinged pretty easily. And at my house, it seems I am constantly patching holes in the drywall in my hallway going upstairs. If you're worried about it holding and really are just trying to get around the difficulty of mudding the walls, you can add wood moldings at the seams and where it butts to the ceiling-- again attaching with liquid nails or cement screws. They do make cement screws that don't require the plastic insert-- although, you still have to predrill the holes with the bit that ussually comes in the box.
- Q:What is rubber cement and where can i get it?
- such as potential of abuse as inhalants and fire. For this reason, as with any adhesive, rubber cement should be used in a well-ventilated area, and care must be taken to avoid heat sources as n-heptane and n-hexane are highly flammable. Rubber cement based on n-heptane is very popular and ubiquitous in the United States, but is generally unknown and unavailable as a consumer product in the UK and some parts of Europe, possibly due to the severe fire hazard of that formulation. A similar solvent based product called Cow Gum was common in the UK, but is no longer in production. Current solvent based options include Marabu-Fixogum and Platignum Studio Gum which are marketed in the UK and Europe. Copydex, a common latex adhesive in the UK, uses an ammonia and water solvent and needs no special handling, making it very child-friendly. While for this reason it is often given to children, it is also used in artwork, and finds widespread use in light D.I.Y. work such as fixing carpet tiles and repairing upholstery
- Q:This isn't for me, my bf is redoing his new house and he got cement on his hands, but didnt wash it off in time. it's been a couple hours right now, and he tried soap and water (like that'd work lol) and oil. I suggested a nail file to get it to flake off, but he doesnt have one.would that work?please tell me if there's anything that'd work. some sort of solution or a file or something? or will he have to go to the doctor and like, get it peeled off or something? lol
- Try white vinegar pure strength to dissolve it since concrete is mineral-based it should dissolve it.
- Q:im trying to attach hardy board to a cement floor it goes in so far and stops do i need a bigger drill im using a 3/8 drill and tapcon screws
- Your ideal to get rid of the vinyl besides the shown fact that it extremely is lots of complicated artwork and actually no longer mandatory no count number if it extremely is down tight and no air wallet and so on.. No cement board is mandatory in any respect . A wasted rate.you fairly can tough up the vinyl w/ belt sander, and tile over the vinyl w/ ideal skinny set.. enable an extra day or 2 to allow the skinny set dry because of the fact that moisture has no the place to pass.. make helpful your use a humid sponge to wipe off returned of slate because of the fact the way its cut back it leaves a residue on the returned ( dusty) that may not permit skinny set bond stunning.. A gauged slate is elementary to set only like each and every tile its the ungauged slate you ll ought to be extra carefull with.. Seal the slate a minimum of as quickly as in the previous setting up or thinset and grout might stain or be very almost impossible to get rid of GL
