- Q: The studs I am referring to are the small round aluminum studs that come in a six pack just in case there was any confusion:)
- The rolls of fibreglass nowadays are more user friendly and arnt as irritating compared to say 5-10 years agoThey will also have a fire resistant rating and wont attract the same amount of bugs that the blankets will.
- Q: When cooking can I substitute parchment for wax paper or aluminum foil? Please answer and help!?
- You can not puty wax paper in the oven, you can use aluminum foil, it may sticka little more, so be careful separtaing
- Q: How fast will it go?I'm not familiar with knots so please answer in MPHThank you.
- About 22 - 24 mph average cruise speed Nothing magic about knots to mph - just remember 10 knots is about 11 miles per hour (rounded off) - 20 knots is about 22 mph, and 22 mph is about how fast your boat will go (maybe 23 or 24) - depending on the load or weight the boat is carryingThere isn't much difference in mph knots at low speeds Techinically, 1 knot 1.15 mph
- Q: For the first time I've actually cooked something delicious but with one problemLast week I made the most amazing enchiladas verdeI baked them in a greased glass dishThe only bad thing about them was some of the bottoms of the enchiladas were really hardHow do I avoid this? My hubby is asking for them again and I want them to be perfect this timeTIA!
- Place the muffin cups in the aluminum tinsSpray each with nonstick spray and then fill with the batter about 2/3 to 3/4 full and bake.
- Q: The elements in group 14 have 4 valence electrons, does this mean they gain or lose electrons when they bond? do they bond with same elements within the group?please leave examples thanks! 10 POINTS UP FOR GRABS
- they can gain or lose electrons butthose rules are rules of thumbIn reality, whether an electron is gained or lost and what type of bond is formed depends on the differences in electronegatvities between the atoms involved examplesCH4C has EN 2.55, H 2.20since the difference is 0.5, the bond is considered non polar covalent and the electrons are shared almost equally rather than transfered from C to H or from H to C CF4F has EN 3.98diff in EN between C and F 1.43So the bonds are polar covalent with the Fluorine taking most of the valence electron density from the C(ieC gives up 4 electrons) CaC2calcium carbideCa has EN 1.00difference in EN between Ca and C 1.55this is an ionic bondthe two C's withdraws almost all of the valence electron density from the Ca(ieC gains 4 electrons) and this goes for basically all the columns of the periodic table column 1 usually gives up an electronbut not alwayscolumn 2 usually gives up a 2 electronsbut not alwayscolumn 13 usually gives up 3 electronsbut not alwaysetcexampleAlH3aluminum hydride the EN of H is 2.20EN of Al is 1.61so the H withdraws electron density from the Al and forms an H- ionthis is called a hydrideAn element in column 1 gained an electron.
- Q: Is it possible to use aluminum foil as a substitute for a sandwich crust?
-
Yes, you can use aluminum foil to make a sandwich crust. While it's not a traditional method, aluminum foil can be used to hold the sandwich together, especially for sandwiches that might fall apart easily. However, it's important to note that foil doesn't contribute to the taste or texture like a proper crust would. It's also crucial to ensure the foil is food-safe and clean before use. For a more authentic sandwich crust, using bread is the best option, but if you're in a pinch or for a temporary solution, aluminum foil can work.

- Q: I've tried the most common setup: Styro cup handle, circle cardboard wrapped with aluminum foilWhen I place my finger near the foil, nothing happens thoughAnd it doesn't light a neon bulbWhat's the problem? Would another setup work?
- The environment must have very LOW humidity.
- Q: We have to make a projectile launcher for physics classMy friends and I are looking for ways to make a catapult out of unique materials, but so far all we can find is ones made out of wood, or the usual pencils, popsicle sticksAny ideas of ordinary items we can use to make a really fun creative catapult??
- rolled newspapers and glueThat was a serious suggestionIf you want to get fancy use small aluminum tubing, or go to a Thrift store and by some old hanging lamps to strip for partsthe possibilities are endless.
- Q: Say 3/4quot; or 1quot; tubing? (not sure what the materical thickness is)Does it need to be heated for it to bend easily? How can I control how tight of a radius it will bend at? I'm talking about bending it to oblique angles greater than 120 or so degreesI just don't want to sacrifice the strength of the tubingAdvice?
- You won't control radius without a formIf you look at commercially bent square tubing, you will find it has often been formed into a radius by using a male radius former to bend around, such that it collapses the inside wall of the tube in, so the outer wall and side walls will conform more easilyPicking a more ductile grade aluminium should help, as will using a large radiusYou could probably bend such tubing more readily using a radiussed square pipe bender formBut do expect some bulging of the side walls, and thinning of the thickness, and cupping of the outer faceThe best bending of irregular sections is probably achieved by machine bending using a shaped mandrel within the tube, which slides back as the tube is formed around its endBut that takes expensive equipment, and I think it may not work with aluminium, as it will tend to pick up on the mandrel too easily.
- Q: it would save me quite a lot of labor if I could just buy a greenhouse kit, but I seriously question if twin wall polycarbonate in an aluminum frame would be adequate if i would like to grow plants year roundI had planned on triple wall and a treated wood frame that I build myselfopinions? tx!
- Double is good, triple is betterPhotoperiod (length of daylight) is important, and you are quite far northThe short winter days will annoy the plants, but not kill themAs the size of the greenhouse increases, so does its thermal mass, and you want the greatest thermal mass that you can afford8 x 6 is awfully smallIt may be a small volume, but the heater is gonna work a lot to keep it at the req'd tempSmall thermal mass means that it will lose heat quicklyIn NW IL, I run a 25 x 25 greenhouse with double-paned polycarbWe got down to -30 FThe plants chugged right on through This includes my cycads, orchids, and agavesIs your greenhouse a lean-to or does it stand alone? How will you prepare the floor to protect against the cold? Lots of stuff to consider.
