Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.
Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.
Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.
Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.

Aluminium (or aluminum; see spelling differences) is a chemical element in the boron group with symbol Al and atomic number 13. It is a silvery white, soft, ductile metal. Aluminium is the third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon), and the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. It makes up about 8% by weight of the Earth's solid surface. Aluminium metal is so chemically reactive that native specimens are rare and limited to extreme reducing environments. Instead, it is found combined in over 270 different minerals. The chief ore of aluminium is bauxite.
Aluminium is remarkable for the metal's low density and for its ability to resist corrosion due to the phenomenon of passivation. Structural components made from aluminium and its alloys are vital to the aerospace industry and are important in other areas of transportation and structural materials. The most useful compounds of aluminium, at least on a weight basis, are the oxides and sulfates.
Despite its prevalence in the environment, no known form of life uses aluminium salts metabolically. In keeping with its pervasiveness, aluminium is well tolerated by plants and animals. Owing to their prevalence, potential beneficial (or otherwise) biological roles of aluminium compounds are of continuing interest.
- Q: This question asks for guidelines to follow when using aluminum foil to ensure safety.
-
When using aluminum foil, safety precautions include: 1) Handling foil carefully to avoid sharp edges that can cause cuts. 2) Not using foil with sharp or pointed objects to prevent punctures and potential ingestion of foil pieces. 3) Avoiding contact with open flames or high heat sources as aluminum foil can melt and cause fires. 4) Not using foil for cooking acidic foods, as the acid can react with the aluminum, potentially releasing harmful substances. 5) Ensuring that the foil does not come into contact with electrical components or wires to prevent short circuits. 6) Washing hands after handling foil to avoid accidental ingestion of aluminum particles. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for safe use.

- Q: I took my first tab at 7:30waited until 9 took another blotterwaited until 10:15 took two more blottersits 11:50 and all I feel is lightheadedness a little bitI bought 4 blotters on aluminum foil like paper with little quares indented it was less the 1/4 inch each paper and about 3 dollar bills thickI let it sit under my tongue each for 30 minutesthey didnt desolve because it was aluminum foil so I swallowed themit tasted a little bitter but that could have just been a metallic like taste from the paperdid I get bunked? or will it kick in later?
- Yes, use the styrofoam, it's betterSometimes you can find it for free!

- Q: Where can I find reviews and opinions online for Aluminum Sheet Type 5052-H32 ASTM-B209 1 8 Thick 12 x 24
- Aluminum Sheet Type 5052-H32 ASTM-B209 1/16 Thick 12 x 12 The sheet is just slightly longer and wider than advertised, about 1/16 more on both dimensions, but too much is better than too little. The thickness is properly 1/16. I'm not familiar with the 5052-H32 ASTM-B209 specifications, but it is good quality aluminum. The surface is not completely smooth or free of blemishes, but I expected some lines and scratches. I just needed some metal for a project, so this is great. It's nice and flat, too. No kinks.
- Q: fire easily
- when the paper is on its own, it has no means to dissipate heat so it easily catches fire, but when it is in contact with a metal, there occurs heat exchange between the metal and the paper(the exchange of heat will be good with aluminium since it is a good conductor of heat)thus it would require a lot more heat for the paper to ignitehope my answer helps:)
- Q: What is the problem in the aluminum foil bag printing process usually?
- Gravure printing process, sometimes failure occurs, mainly by the printing plate, ink, substrate and scraping knife, etc., mainly in the following aspects.(1) poor printing fastness. For plastic materials (such as plastic film), may be due to corona is not enough, in printing ink and printed material compatibility is poor. Due to the change of environmental temperature and humidity of printing and other reasons; for metal packaging materials (such as aluminum foil printing), is mainly due to the poor performance of the ink and substrate affinity the surface of the substrate or coating or printing, environmental temperature and humidity changes caused by the poor fastness of printing.(2) there is a scratch on the printed ink. Guide roller scratch, mixed with sand in the ink, scraper uneven, scraper and plate angle is not appropriate, etc., is the cause of printing scratches. The correct judgment should be made according to the specific situation of the scratch phenomenon, and the specific reasons should be found, and corresponding measures should be taken to solve them.
- Q: The cookie sheet is Farberware and it is non-stickI used it to cook/heat up various things in the oven and now it has brown stains on itAny advice on how to clean it is appreciated.I started using a new cookie sheet with aluminum foil so it wouldn't stainedAny other tips? I'm a newlywed and new at this kind of thing.: )

- Q: My dad gave my a 1984 300ZX a few years ago and I have left it sitting for yearsI could try to make the repairs but my dad and I always talked about putting a 350ci engine in itI know that it's possible but I have had very little success finding any meaningful information about it.I just need to know if it would even be worth itIs there a lot of modification involved? What customizations would I need to do in order for it to work? What parts would I need to buy? How much would it cost to do this?EVEN THOUGH I HIGHLY DOUBT IT, I have heard that the 350 will bolt up to the Nissan transmission or that there is a conversion kit to make it fit.
- I am of the same school of thought as Nate MWhy go through all the trouble when you have a perfectly packaged 3.0L double overhead cam V6 all aluminum engine at your disposal? Forget putting a 350 in itGet the thing running and see what it will take to put twin turbos on itNow that will get you holding on to your beans.
- Q: I'm taking care of my dad while my mother is away (meaning preparing his meals and keeping his house clean) and when I went to start washing his dishes, I saw 3 Cornish Game Hens defrosting in the sinkI can only assume that he wants the hens for dinner, but I'm not much of an omnivore, so I have no idea how to prepare them.Does anyone have a suggestion on how to cook them, including ingrediants, applications and cook time? Also, what would be a good side for the hens?(This is a challenge for me in that my stomach churns a bit when I touch meat in the shape of a body, but I can do this!)
