Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.
Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.
Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.
Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.

- Q: I was barely living from paycheck to paycheck and the company I worked for decided to downsize, so I lost my jobI am already behind on my rent and I am afraid I will soon be homeless :(Unemployment insurance won't be enough for me to catch up on my debtI have no family leftMy mom was the last of my family and she recently passed away.So I am starting to accept the fact that I am going to be homelessI currently live in Los Angeles, CaliforniaI hate this place with a passion and do not want to continue living here.I do still have my car that is paid in full but soon I will not be able to afford insuranceBut I plan on living in my car until I can get back on my feet.I was wondering if anybody knew of a state / city where I can feel safe and not worry about being killed at nightAlso I do not want to take the risk of being arrested for sleeping somewhere illegal (public parks, beaches, etc)
- I highly recommend San DiegoThe cops are pretty lenient at night, between certain hours, especially if you have a carThere are a lot of places where you could park, tooThere are several organizations (look up San Diego Rescue Mission, for one, or Catholic Charities) that might be able to help youAlso, I make it a point to help as many homeless people as I can each Sunday, so if you unfortunately end up being one of those people, perhaps you can find one of the larger groups where people seem to look out for each other.

- Q: In my notes it says that it's because of the delocalised electrons, but what does that have to do with it when the nuclei of metals in metallic bonding are charged '2+'?
- sodium has one delocalised electron per atom and atoms have a +1 charge magnesium has 2 and +2 and aluminium has 3 and +3 the greater charge and greater number of electrons means that the atoms are held in place more securly and so they do not melt as easily
- Q: what is the mass of 3.45 moles of aluminum sulfate?
- aluminum sulfate is Al2(SO4)3 find the GFM of this 2(27.0) + 3(32.1+(4 * 16.0)) 54.0 + 288.3 342.3grams/mol you have 3.45 moles, so multiply these two numbers 3.45mol x 342.3g/mol = 1180.9g
- Q: How many mL of 6 M KOH are required to supply potassium ion in the alum formed from 1.1 g of aluminum?
- alum is KAl(SO4)2.12H2O each mole has 1 mole of Al 1 mole of K use molar mass to find moles of Al: 1.1 g Al 27 g/mol 0.0407 moles of Al at that 1 mole of Al to 1 mole of K 0.0407 moles of Al requires 0.0407 moles of K find volume 0.0407 moles of K 6 moles / Litre KOH 0.00679 litres of KOPH your answer, rounded to 2 sig fig would be 6.8 ml of KOH however, since the 6M KOH has only 1 sig fig, you are likely expected to round your answer off to 7 ml of KOH
- Q: how do you get rust off of a chrome-color bike?
- The only fabric I would use in a rat cage is fleece, since it wont fray off into little stringsYou can use PVC piping from your Lowes to make tubes for themIf you want a fabric tube, then just sew a tube and use part of a plastic 2 liter soda bottle for the mouth of the tube to make it stand upJust sew the edge around it so they dont eat the plastic.
