- Q: I have a shed that has wiring run for light bulb and a couple outlets. It is in a dark corner of my yard and at night is kinda creepy to go in with even a flashlight. I am weighing the option/expense of running electricity from the house on an overhead line versus putting up a 45 watt solar panel on the metal roof with inverter, battery etc. Sunlight is good to excellent at the location. Question is - will this be sufficient for the occasional use of light and an outlet? What can I expect? Pros and cons appreciated
- Lets say, for a simple approximation, that the 45 watt panel produces 45 watts /3 of the time and nothing the rest of the time. Each day, this will produce 8 hours times 45 watts = 360 watt hours. Also assume the battery charge controller and inverter waste half of that power, leaving 80 watt hours per day. If you use compact fluorescent lamps, that would allow you to burn 80 watts worth for an hour every day, or 90 watts for 2 hours, etc. That is a lot of light for a shed. You might consider using much less efficient tungsten filament lamps, but eliminate the inverter and choose low voltage (automotive) lamps that can run directly across the battery and lower the total cost, but give you only about half the light times time. The main advantage of the inverter might be that it would allow you to use small power tools or appliances in the shed. -- Regards, John Popelish
- Q: Can solar panels be used to power a bank?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to power a bank. Solar panels generate electricity by converting sunlight into usable energy, which can be used to supply power to a bank's operations and facilities. By installing solar panels, banks can reduce their reliance on traditional energy sources and lower their carbon footprint. Additionally, solar power can help banks save on energy costs in the long run.
- Q: I heard the wind turbines, solar panels so far provide America with around 2% of our energy. So since liberals appear to want to replace natural energy with man made products, that cause massive pollution by the way to make- How long will that take 30 years, 00 years? How many Wind Turbines will Airplanes and birds and parachute jumpers smash into, isn't that a problem? How do we rid of natural energy before we have the LIBERAL BACK UP PLAN - WE DON'T REALLY HAVE ? How do they think this is gonna work? Its not logical, we need to come up with more ideas! That Battery idea kinda sucks since Batteries Need natural energy to work.
- There is an abundance of free energy available on this planet. Wave, wind, solar, (underground), and many many others that I can't remember right now. If some of the multi-trillions currently being spent being spent by the US government on defence (and the rest of the planet defending ourselves FROM the US) were re-directed towards exploiting sustainable, long-term energy supplies, then much work would be generated and the cost of energy would drop significantly - in the long run. So, why are we not utilizing these sources of energy? Unbelievably short-sighted right-wing political ideology, that's why! One thing almost never reported about nuclear power, is that there isn't much nuclear power fuel available on this planet. I think I can quite honestly state that when the time comes when we are forced to move from non-renewable to renewable energy production, it will probably be far too late with far too much damage done and the environment will collapse and become incapable of supporting oxygen breathing life-forms. I concluded many years ago that capitalism will probably end all life on this planet one day. Capitalism IS right-wing politics! Do you now see where the problem is coming from?
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a shopping mall or retail center?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a shopping mall or retail center. In fact, many shopping malls and retail centers around the world have already incorporated solar panels into their infrastructure. This not only helps to reduce energy costs for the businesses operating within the mall but also promotes sustainability and reduces the carbon footprint of the facility.
- Q: We want make solar panel for our home use. but we have no any right idea how we can make it. we want to make it with cheap prices.we also want to know the proper size of solar panel.where we can take help about making a solar panel
- How to Make a Solar Panel – Everything You are Going to Need There are several things you’re going to need when making a homemade solar panel, some of the main components include: Solar Cells Wood Plate Soldering Iron Solder Tabbing Don’t worry; special tools are not required for this DIY ‘solar panel’ project, and you will probably have everything you need laying around the garage. Now let’s go over the recommended materials for a basic solar system: Plexiglas Solar Cells Screws Lumber Jones Plug Wire Diode Caulk Silicon Material
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on historic homes or buildings?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on historic homes or buildings. However, it is important to consider the specific regulations and guidelines in place for historic preservation in each jurisdiction. In some cases, there may be restrictions on the placement and design of solar panels to ensure they do not detract from the historical integrity of the property. It is advisable to consult with preservation authorities or experts to determine the feasibility and appropriate approach for solar panel installation on historic structures.
- Q: I don't have a regulator connected as they are a little expensive for a pensioner, If I join the panels into line to the battery bank from the roof should that be OK.?
- You can do this, but it isn't the best way to go. There is no problem with joining the solar panels. There are two ways to do this, in series and in parallel. A series combination will add the voltages that each panel is producing together, but not the amperages. For example, if five panels are producing 6V at 300mA each, the end result will be 30V at 300mA for a series array. A parallel combination combines the amperages of all the panels, but not the voltages. So, in our earlier example, five panels at 6V and 300mA would provide 6V and 500mA (.5A) if wired in parallel. Series-parallel combinations are also possible, giving some of the benefits of each method. This would probably better understood by doing a quick search on Google Images for series, parallel, and series-parallel. You CAN connect the solar panels directly to your battery bank with no regulator. Unfortunately, without a regulator, the connection is two-way. When the sun is out and the solar panels are producing more voltage than the batteries, the batteries will charge. However, when the panels are producing less voltage than the batteries, the batteries will instead send power into the solar panels, which will be dissipated and wasted. The panels may charge your batteries during the day, but they will discharge them at night.
- Q: I need a list of worldwide solar panel manufactures from china, US, Spain, Germany, Japan etc...Can any one direct ne to such place?I rather it will also contain comparison of parameters like efficiacy, quality etc and to be divedied by country of manufacturing.Thank you
- You can't buy at that level unless you are connected to governement. A lot of production is already spoken for for years to come. Where you live determines what you can legally buy and install. The EU has it's own certification, the US has 2 sets, the Canadians have their own. Your answer also requires knowing the use for the solar panels, whether it is grid-tie, off-grid or standalone to power an appliance. And you have to choose mono crystalline, poly crystalline, or thin-film.
- Q: hey so im doing this project for my technology class and i was wondering what different colours solar panels can be. also is it possible to have kentic power as a back up power if batteries dont work? thx in advance
- Panels can come in a selection of colors, and trimmed in a variety of frames. Most are dark, black, blue or reddish in hue. Concentrators may appear white from a distance. Kinetic back up is possible in the form of a flywheel. Not very common but it is out there. Another form of kinetic backup that is used by some power companies is hydro. When the sun is out and the system is producing more than is used, the excess can be used to pump water uphill to a holding tank. Then when there is a demand, the water is allowed to flow back down turning a turbine to generate electricity.
- Q: I just connected my 5 Watt 2V solar panel directly to my 300 Watt 2 inverter. It worked for about 2 minutes then it popped (sparks, smoke etc)! What the hell did I do wrong? I thought the solar panel was 2 volts? Can someone with experience with these things help me out?
- . A 5 WATT panel can NOT power a 300 WATT inverter. 2. IF using 2 volts, then you need a 2 volt battery in the circuit as well. Panel charges battery which powers inverter. When the inverter pulls more power than the panel puts out, it gets it from the battery until the voltage drops low enough to shut down the inverter. NOTE: SOME cheap units do NOT have protective circuitry, and when the voltage drops, the current rises and burns them up.
