- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a restaurant or food establishment?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a restaurant or food establishment. In fact, many restaurants and food establishments have already embraced solar energy as a sustainable and cost-effective solution to power their operations. Installing solar panels can help reduce energy expenses, lower carbon footprint, and showcase the establishment's commitment to environmental responsibility.
- Q: Are there any maintenance requirements for solar panels?
- Yes, solar panels do require some maintenance. Regular cleaning of the panels to remove dirt, dust, and debris is recommended to ensure optimal performance. Additionally, it is important to inspect the panels for any signs of damage or wear, and if necessary, have them repaired or replaced. Monitoring the system's performance and checking the connections regularly is also crucial for identifying any issues.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on ski resorts?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on ski resorts. In fact, many ski resorts around the world have started incorporating solar panels as a sustainable energy solution. These panels can be installed on rooftops, parking lots, or even on open fields to generate clean and renewable electricity. Ski resorts can benefit from solar energy by reducing their carbon footprint, lowering energy costs, and promoting eco-consciousness in their operations.
- Q: Are there any safety concerns with solar panels?
- Yes, there are some safety concerns with solar panels, although they are generally considered safe. The main concerns include the risk of electrical shock or fire due to improper installation or maintenance, potential harm from falling panels or debris during severe weather events, and exposure to toxic materials used in panel manufacturing. However, these risks can be minimized through proper installation, regular maintenance, and adherence to safety guidelines and regulations.
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high pollution or smog?
- Yes, solar panels can still be used in areas with high pollution or smog. While pollution and smog can slightly reduce the efficiency of solar panels by blocking some sunlight, they can still generate electricity even in these conditions. However, regular maintenance and cleaning may be required to ensure optimal performance in polluted areas.
- Q: I have a solar panel 7.5V .25W 50mah, connect 2 in parallel to power a RC boat. The boat use to run on 6cell battery pack - 7.2V 800Mah.The dc motor requirement based on the provided battery pack, i assume would be 7.2V and rated at (7.2V * .8Amp) = 2.96 Watt.Would two of my solar panels run this DC motor ?are my calculations or understanding correct ?do lend a hand dear ''world''
- solar cells are not rated in mah, they are rated in ma or amps. I'll assume this one is 50mA. Two in parallel will give you 300mA, so that will charge a 800mA-hr battery in 800/300 = 3 hours. Theoretically, in bright sunlight if the array is exactly at right angles to the sun's rays. The problem is, depending on the type of cells, the battery pack will need 8 volts or so to charge, and your solar cells won't deliver that. If the sun is at an angle, you may get only 3-5 volts. so you have to put them in series, so you will get only 50mA out of them, which will charge the battery in 6 hours of bright sunlight. Would two of my solar panels run this DC motor ? If the motor is .8 amps, you need the battery, the arrays are not near enough. Or are you attempting to replace the battery pack with the solar array? Your english makes that difficult to understand. If so, put them in parallel to get the 300mA, but that would run the .8 amp motor very slowly. If you had 2 of the solar panels, it might run at close to full speed if the sun is bright and shining directly on all the panels. But where did you get the .8 amps for the motor? The 800Mah rating of the battery has ZERO to do with the motor current. So the answer above is based on your number, which I suspect is totally wrong. .
- Q: Do solar panels require a specific type of wiring or electrical setup?
- Yes, solar panels require a specific type of wiring and electrical setup. They need to be connected in series or parallel to form an array, and the wiring should be designed to handle the direct current (DC) generated by the panels. Additionally, an inverter is typically used to convert the DC electricity into alternating current (AC) for use in the electrical system of a building or to be fed back into the grid. It is important to follow electrical code requirements and consult with professionals when installing solar panels to ensure a safe and efficient setup.
- Q: OK, so if you put solar panels up on a roof, they are busy turning the sun's energy into electricity. So, does that mean the roof (and therefore the house/structure) stays cooler as well? Or does it still get hot, because . . . I dunno, maybe the panels don't convert all the energy, and the spillover still heats up the building.Any links or URLs to scientific answers would be appreciated, but I don't mind hearing from the Average Joe or (Joelle).
- I asked the same question once to a PV install during a seminar a few years back, and he explained the following: No, PV panels do not reflect or absorb much heat from going into the building below but there is a reason for this: PV panels that reflect / absorb heat produce less electricity. They are designed to Thermally Transparent. Even worse if installed incorrectly without a good angle and air gap to allow the heat to escape the panels will actually trap this heat and increase the interior temperature of the building below! Below is the scientific analysis that is quite verbose but has two nice graphs at the end. To summarize: Adding PV panels, at best, shaded the building enough to reduce the load of the interior A/C unit by .8 kWh/sq-m/year. The electricity generated by the panels was about 356 kWh/sq-m/year. You can see the big advantage of PV panels is to make power, not reflect heat. Proper insulation is much cheaper and will do a much better job. Don’t worry, I was shocked too, but like anything it makes sense after it is explained.
- Q: I live in Hawaii and having a solar panel is not a bad idea since we have plenty of sun the only problem is that it cost a lot of money and takes many years before you get your money back. There are kits available where you can make and install your own solar panel and wind turbine but is it bull **** or is it a good deal?
- If you're in Hawaii, number one, be sure to get a solar water heater. Guaranteed fast payback. Now about those kits. Avoid the kind that says you can make your own panels for under $200. Those are scams. If you're in CC of Honolulu, you will not be allowed to connect that kind of panel to your house - it doesn't meet National Electrical Code because it doesn't have a safety rating like UL. There are kits for grid-tied solar that run from $6000 on up. That's the kind that can actually save you money. I don't know whether you are allowed to install it yourself, though. In California, you can, as long as you get the inspection, same as any other building project. In spite of being further south, Honolulu gets about the same amount of sun as we do in San Jose, California. That's because our area is dry, and you have more clouds and rain during an average year. If you're in one of the wet valleys like Manoa or Palolo, obviously the situation would only be worse. But your electric rates are high, so you have a good chance of making your money back. Very few sites are really good for wind turbines. You cannot just put it on your roof in the city - it needs to up high, where the wind is strong and steady. That's why you see turbine mounted on towers. Also, because it has moving parts, it's going to wear out. Finally, you know how cars rust out quickly there compared to the mainland? Same thing with a wind turbine.
- Q: Okay, me and my friends are going to fix up an old trailer that's out in the woods, we want something to be able to run small electric appliances off of, but it's to far to run power to. How can we make a good but cheap homemade solar panel that we could plug things into? The trailer is in more of a field so it gets plenty of sunlight! Thanks for any help! :)
