It is so powerful that it really does pull the dust from beneath the carpet. I've always been opposed to carpeting, because it's nasty, and most vacuum cleaners cannot get all of the dirt up. A Dyson can and will get all of the dirt up. It's good to know that my Dyson has also taken quite the beating over the years. It fell down the stairs when I backed into it, and, that wa three years ago. It works like a charm. Do yourself a favor and purchase a Dyson. They are worth the money and they really never lose suction.

Q: Where could I find info. on this on what equals what?Thanks!: Unfortunately, you can't go by the advertised amps/volts/or watts. That only refers to the amount of power CONSUMED by the appliance. A motor that draws a lot of amps may simply be inefficient in its use of power. Better off to make sure the machine is warranteed to be returnable in case you get it home and don't like the way it performs. Don't buy a Kirby; way over-rated and not worth the high price!

Q: Vacuum is the absence of matter. From my understanding, vacuums work by fans and air currents....I don't understand.: Vacuum cleans don't suck. They create a low pressure area inside the machine by blowing out air (matter) and the outside air pressure blows air into the cleaner to fill in the void left behind. So you could call it a blow cleaner, but that doesn't sound as nice in an advertisement. The low pressure area inside the machine is a partial vacuum, so the name is accurate.
