- Q: I need to use solar panels to charge lead acid batteries in an off-grid application. I understand that solar panels have a open circuit maximum voltage and an maximum amperage under no resistance, and that one can optimize the power output by regulating the load (resistance). If so, is just connecting 2 -volt solar panels to a lead-acid battery inefficient? Are there devices that will maximize 2 volt output power (by varying the resistance)? Am I on the right track here? Thanks for any help.
- The answer is actually quite complicated, but if you're planning on building just a very small system, most likely, the panel will be small and weak. In this case, connecting a panel that is 8 volts open circuit directly to a lead-acid battery is probably the most efficient way to charge. There are charge controllers that you can buy, some of which actively track the maximum power point for charging your battery. Unfortunately, those controllers might eat 5 or 0 watts, just to get you another few percent of charging efficiency. If your panel is only 50 watts in the first place, you can see that this is not a good deal. If you're getting serious panels (clue: price $500 each), then you may very well benefit from a charge controller with MPPT (max power point tracking). Lead-acid, either a flooded cell like your car battery, or AGM, are the standard for solar energy storage. Lithium ion is better in many ways, being less sensitive to temperature, state of discharge, and they are also lighter. Charging them is also more straightforward with the right circuitry. The problem is, they cost like $500 per kWh, compared with less than a tenth that price for lead-acid.
- Q: Can solar panels be used for air conditioning?
- Yes, solar panels can be used for air conditioning. Solar panels generate electricity from sunlight, which can be used to power air conditioning units. By using solar energy, homeowners and businesses can reduce their reliance on traditional electricity sources and decrease their carbon footprint. However, the efficiency and effectiveness of using solar panels for air conditioning may vary depending on factors such as the size of the solar system, location, and energy requirements of the air conditioning unit.
- Q: Can I install my 2v solar panel straight to battery to charge the battery on my 989 ford ranger?
- No, there is no way that you can install solar panel in your truck battery. For your information, solar panel works only if it is stable mode and consuming solar energy. So, think about it, does your moving truck can give what a solar panel need to run it.
- Q: I was trying to figure out if I could run an electric heater off of a solar panel, but I don't understand these electric convertion factors and stuff. Would it work? (I know it'll only work in the daytime and stuff.)SOLAR PANELPeak Power 95W PTC Watts 73.0WVoc 30.7VPeak Voltage 24.4VIsc 8.6APeak Current 7.96A HEATERInput: 20 V/60 Hz ,500 W/5,200 BTU
- No, not enough power. Energetic got some of it. A transformer will not convert DC to AC. Transformers work on AC. A power inverter converts. Your solar panels do only put out the 95W but at the higher impedence of the heater, at 24V it would only be able to push through about 45W. Less than an average light bulb in a desk lamp.
- Q: If you want to instal solar panels...how often do you have to replace them?
- I have several friends that have large systems down in Mexico where there is no electric grid. They have had these systems for years. They say you probably should plan on at least 0 years with decent output. The capacity does taper off with time so maybe half power in 5 years might be a good assumption. Here in Arizona our payback (Break even) point is about 8-9 years. Our state has subsidies along with fed, and utility company. A 3000 watt system will cost about $0,000 installed. That is about half off regular price.
- Q: Can solar panels be used for large-scale power generation?
- Yes, solar panels can definitely be used for large-scale power generation. With advancements in technology and decreasing costs, solar power has become a viable option for utility-scale projects. Large solar farms comprising thousands of panels are being built around the world to generate electricity on a massive scale. These solar installations have the potential to provide clean and sustainable energy for cities, industries, and even entire regions.
- Q: Since plants have been populating this earth for the past 475 million years I think they have evolved to gain the most sun with their greenery. If scientists used heat sensors to find the hot spots of trees and trim all of the leaves that don't quot;providefor the plant, then maybe that trimmed tree could be used to become a solar quot;panelquot;. I believe that each individual leaf could be replaced by a small solar panel and the wood of the tree would be wiring that would root all of the solar panels to a generator.
- I don't know much about solar power. This does however seem to be a very interesting idea. But I'd imagine that the complexity of building such a structure would be far more difficult that just laying thousands of large panels in an area. The shadow from higher panels may also have an adverse affect on the lower panels. Consider the tiny panels that do provide energy and compare them to a large panel that is easier to make.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on historical landmarks or monuments?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on historical landmarks or monuments with careful planning and consideration to preserve the architectural integrity and cultural significance of the site.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a stadium or sports arena?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a stadium or sports arena. In fact, many stadiums and sports arenas around the world have already embraced solar energy by installing solar panels on their rooftops or parking lots. These panels generate clean and renewable energy, helping the facility reduce its carbon footprint and save on electricity costs. Additionally, solar panels on stadiums can also serve as a visible symbol of sustainability, inspiring others to adopt renewable energy solutions.
- Q: a fiber optic network could distribute solar energy from warm states to the rest of the country. Using a Federally created program, the energy would be used through a trust program to benefit all of our citizens equally. It would create thousands of jobs and help us with our dependence on foriegn oil supplies. This is no different than work programs created by the Feds during the 930's depression era.
- To add to what others have said, more importantly, what will you do at night !! Electricity is VERY hard to store, so it has to be produced all the time. Even cloudy days cause problems. Lack of raw materials, costs compared to other forms, and the fact that miles across will not even be close. Think more like a state across to supply the US. Think avout this yourself or ask your parents if you are younger. To go solar are you willing to have your power bill be 0-20 times the current level for the next 30-50 years? You will find the answer in NO. I think those numbers will even be conservative. On your depression argument. Remember that the unemployment rate was 7% where it is 5% now. Also, the real end of the depression was WWII. I hope we don't do that again. Can you imagine trying to double federal spending? I don't think taxpayers would go for that. Start in your own back yard. Become energy efficient yourself. Install solar, use an electric car, and do everything you can before you spend other peoples money.
