Q: I had an idea for new parabolic solar panels shaped like horseshoes. They can install them outside buildings facing the equator. They could angle them from the ground based on how many degrees latitude the location and rotate them according to seasonal changes. The disadvantage of photovoltaic panels is that they are not all capable of receiving direct sunlight. That is the quintessential reason I believe horseshoe solar panels are more effective than flat rectangular ones. One side could function in the morning; the middle could perform at midday; and the other could operate during the evening. That method seems more sensible than hourly positioning. I'm certain horseshoe panels could save and produce more electricity. A football stadium, shopping mall, or outlet center would be a fantastic place. What do you think?
The panel's own shadow at different times will defeat the purpose. In addition large areas of expenssive panel will remain idle. Flat panels are the most economical solution.
Q: Can solar panels be used for powering a research facility or laboratory?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power a research facility or laboratory. Solar energy is a renewable and sustainable source of power that can provide electricity to such facilities. By installing solar panels, the research facility can reduce its dependence on traditional energy sources, lower its carbon footprint, and potentially save on energy costs in the long run.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on hospitals or healthcare facilities?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on hospitals or healthcare facilities. In fact, many healthcare facilities are increasingly adopting solar energy as a sustainable and cost-effective solution. Solar panels can help hospitals reduce their dependence on traditional energy sources, lower operating costs, and contribute to a greener environment.
Q: I was trying to figure out if I could run an electric heater off of a solar panel, but I don't understand these electric convertion factors and stuff. Would it work? (I know it'll only work in the daytime and stuff.)SOLAR PANELPeak Power 95W PTC Watts 73.0WVoc 30.7VPeak Voltage 24.4VIsc 8.6APeak Current 7.96A HEATERInput: 20 V/60 Hz ,500 W/5,200 BTU
Watts = Volts * Amps Your heater needs at least 500 watts of AC power. The solar panel only produces about 200 watts of power ( 24volts * 8amps). Not enough to run the heater. Also, the solar panel produces DC current, not the AC current that the heater needs. However, if you had solar panel that produced enough power (watts), you could buy a transformer to turn the panel's DC output into the required AC output. But that doesn't seem like a real cost-effective plan.
Q: A homeowner is considering putting a horizontal solar panel on her roof to heat water for domestic use. An average increase of water temperature each day from 60oF to 20oF is wanted for 50 gallons. How large a panel would be needed on a clear winter day at 40o latitude if the overall efficiency is 50%?
Here's a typical 4' x 8' collector rating. 40 degree latitude would be a cool climate, so you look at row D, water heating in a cool climate. Probably take the middle rating, mildly sunny day, and it is 0,000BTU per panel per day (it's 9,000 on a sunny day). 38,700 BTU / 0,000 BTU = 3.87, they'd need about 3 to 4 panels. If you used the sunny day number, you'd only need 2, but 3 is more realistic, as it is not always a sunny day.
Q: I am told there are night vision goggles to see at night due to invisible light still hitting earth. I am also told that there are other beams, x-rays etc hitting earth. Why couldn't they invent a solar panel with dual power in the day?It could harness both visible and invisible light, and at night be single?Anyone know why they can't make an invisible light solar panel? Is this possible? What happens if future cars have night vision windshields instead of lights?

Q: Installing solar panels requires a big initial investment. Before I make this investment I want to check to see if the money I will save by installing solar panels will actually pay for this investment, in the long run. To calculate my savings, we should consider the area (square feet) I currently have available to install solar panels. Look at the available sunlight and its intensity in my state each month of the year. Based on this data estimate how much energy my solar panel will generate. Then compare that with how much energy (kWh) I currently consume based on my electricity bill.
Your school spend $0,000 per month or per year?? Photovoltaic (Solar Panel) panels have a really large initial capital investment. If you live in a location (e.g. West Coast Desert, SoCal) where there are many sunny days so you might be able to break even quicker. Also note ,there are state and federal grants that can help ease the capital cost. Energy demand keeps going up so expect our current rates to double. People who have alternative forms like wind and solar will have the advantage when this time comes. Just think of when the US had it's oil crisis in summer of 2008, people with small efficient vehicles such as Prius's didn't feel the price increase like the people who bought cheaper large SUV's.
Q: I own a townhome in the Phoenix area (my power company's SRP, if that makes a difference). Phoenix is a great place for solar. I could probably save money, in the long term, if I got some solar panels. But I am currently extremely broke, so I can't buy solar panels unless I will more or less immediately be paying no more than I am now per month, with little or nothing down. And most of the solar leasing places won't work with me, because (as is common for townhomes) I don't technically own my roof. I have permission to put things on it, but the property management people (or whoever actually owns my roof) won't sign the lease or whatever.Anyone know of either a way to buy solar panels without paying significantly more per month than I already do for electricity, or a solar leasing company that can work with the restrictions I have?
Nope; I see no escape. Best advice I can give is this: sell out and move to a single home residence that has no HOA. If you want solar, I believe the main roofline should run east-west, so that the south exposure of the roof can be easily and economically populated with panels. APS is better than SRP wrt solar ....maybe. Im not sure, everythiong around here is APS so there's no balance. Ive occasionally heard rumors from SRP folks who are unhappy.... check into it before you buy.
Q: hi everyone..i wanna do my major project on solar panels...so anyone kindly tell me the projects based on solar panels..
I have done this in my project too and a solar panel, two wires, a circuit/project board, an LED light/a small fan,a switch and a solderer. Just solder the wires to the positive and negative parts of the panel, put the wires connected to the panel to the board put the LED's on the other side and the switch together with it shine light on the panel and the light/fan will work.(If it dosen't work, please DO NOT consult ME.)
Q: Okay, so I have a science fair coming up soon and I need help with my project. SO - What should I use to demonstrate with the propeller? A toy boat? Plane? And I only have mini solar panels ; so how do I put the solar panels on the toy boat/plane to make the propeller move off of the sun's energy? Thanks. Steps please!
Solar panels produce electricity. To move the propeller you need mechanical motion. An Electric motor converts from electrical to mechanical power. Most Solar Panels produce DC electricity as do batteries so you need a DC motor that is sized to match the Output of your solar panels. For small temporary projects like this I find that hot melt glue is great to assemble parts. Using a voltage meter you can expose your solar panels to a strong light (or one equal to what you expect during your demonstration) and measure the voltage across the terminals. This may help to size the motor. It depends upon the size of your propeller and how it is made. Your three choices are to use it to power an airplane, to power a boat underwater or to power a boat like an air boat. You might also use the air boat concept to make a car. (air car) The air boat might be the simplest to make but you will need a body of water to demonstrate the concept. The air car doesn't have such a requirement.
