Q:if the crane starts out at ground level and the skyscraper is being built next to it, how does the crane get moved to the top of the building once the skyscraper has been built to the level of the top of the crane? (eg: the crane can reach a height of 30 stories but the building being const. is 100 stories)
It is usually self-hoisting. There is motor and gear assenbly that lifts the crane within the tube (usually a future elevator shaft) the is constructed around it. Then it is bolted down and goes back to work.

1) Something happened to the crane - it doesn't matter what - it was an excuse to bring out spiderman, What happened isn't important. It was a kind of malfunction anyway - NOTHING to do with any villians 2) Gay and jerk side? He wan't being gay, but because he was a jerk in the first place that is why he didn't really know how to dress up properly and being up himself means he doesn't recognise it - which by the way, was well scripted into the movie. Therefore the crane overcomes just the force of gravity = 500*9.81 = 4905 N Power = force * velocity = 4905 * 0.7 = 3433.5 W b) distance = speed * time = 0.7 * (2 * 60) = 84 m c) assuming that the cable breaks while it is still going up at 0.7 m/s, therefore initial velocity upwards = 0.7 m/s. using v? = u? + 2as: v? = 0.7? + 2(-9.8)(-84) = 1646.89 v = √(1646.89) = 40.9 m/s the payload will be travelling at 40.9 m/s when it hit the ground.
