- Q: Please help. I need real answers.
- About Ichabod Crane, the school master, Washington Irving writes in A Legend of Sleepy Hollow: He was, in fact an odd mixture of small shrewdness and simple credultiy. His appetite for the marvellous, and his powers of digesting it, were equally extraordinary; and both had been increased by his residence in this spellbound region. Ichabod Crane digests Cotton Mather's (a Puritan preacher) History of New England Witchcraft, a book in which he firmly and most potently believes. He spends many hours reading Mather's work, and fluttered by his excited imagination he believes that he is struck with a witch's token at times. To drive away the evil spirits, he sings psalm tunes. Nevertheless, Crane still delights in the supernatural, so he spends winter evening with the old Dutch wives who exchange tales of ghosts and goblins around the fire. In turn, Ichabod entertains them with Mathers's reports on witchcraft, as well as predicting what the sounds in the winter air portend.

- Q: Something confuses me in dragon ball:When roshi has a flash back, he says crane didn't turn evil until after mutaito fails to kill piccolo, but in the filer where goku goes back in time, crane is an asshole before picolo and roshi referred to him as a friend before the piccolo incident. Also, why in the piccolo flash back are roshi and crane bald but in the filler do they have hair and glasses? Also, why in the filler does crane have a different outfit in the filler than the other students but in the piccolo flash back he has the same outfit as roshi?
- The idea is that Crane Hermit is a selfish man that would do anything to get what he wants. In the past, Master Mutaito was there to ram some discipline in his head and have him under control. Following the events of his death and the defeat of King Piccolo, nothing could really stop him from being a selfish jerk again. Roshi probably didn't mention Crane being bad before King Piccolo's arrival because he wasn't really evil before it either. He was selfish and greedy, but not outright despicable as later... at least not that much. Roshi seeing Crane as a friend might imply that Crane had some redeeming qualities during his years as Roshi's rival under Mutaito's guidance. About their baldness, I think they shaved their heads after a while due to how monks and some martial artists tend to shave their heads. That or it's a plot hole due/filler error. It's again either a plot hole/filler error or they just switched outfits once they reached a certain level of their training, just like how you gain a different color of band as you progress in Judo and Karate.
- Q: My understanding is that under Crane doctrine the tax basis of the property to begin with is Equity Invested + Financing (recourse or nonrecourse doesn't matter). i.e. 20K down + 80K purchase money mortgage = 100K. What if the property is appraised for only 80K right before purchase but purchaser paid 100K? Is the tax basis 80K or 100K.In other words, is the tax basis the actual assessed value of the property or is the tax basis the total investment? Thanks,Ben
- Your understanding of Crane is correct. For purposes of calculating the gain on sale, the basis would be $100k. What Crane really said was that the net proceeds would have to include any assumed debt, in addition to any cash received -- basically that you had to include the debt on both ends of the transaction if my reading is correct. (That jives with the example in Commissioner v Tufts et al, 81-1356 so I think we're correct on that.) Where basis gets interesting is when you are calculating depreciation. At least when you convert a residential property to business use -- i.e. a rental -- you use the LESSER of the cost basis (Crane) or the FMV on the date that the property is placed in business(rental) service. In your example, the depreciable basis would be $80k since that was the lower. For calculating the gain on sale, the cost basis would still be $100k (adjusted down for any depreciation allowed or allowable while in business use of course).
- Q: Does anyone have any info on John B. Crane?
- Do you mean the Lecturer John B. Crane of the Redpath Chautauqua Collection? Thats the only one I know.
- Q: A heavy concrete panel is being lifted into position in a building by means of a crane (see figure below). The tension of 1.78 x 10^4 N in the supporting cable produces a torque with respect to point O. (Let L = 46.3 m.)
- The crane contributes a torque of 495,979.8 Newton-meters. 1.78e+4 * 46.3 * cos(53.0) = 495,979.8 ...but this is not the total (net) torque. There is also a torque due to the weight of the concrete slab - torque we are ignoring since we do not know the weight of the slab.
- Q: i need the story cranes by hwang sun won and translated by peter h. lee and i cant find it on google. help i need the story for my essay
- EEK! I just did a search under Hwang Sun Won. It appears that Cranes is a series of short stories. Is that what you meant? If it is one particular short story called Cranes, I can't find it. I would suggest you go to your teacher/professor and ask where to obtain a copy. If you can't ask your teacher, run, do not walk! to your nearest library and throw yourself on the mercy of the librarians! Another search option for you is to look for books by Peter H. Lee, specifically the ones he has edited. He has written several anthologies. Good luck!
