Q: How difficult is white crane boxing? Where can I find a teacher near Cleveland, Ohio? I've never tried any type of kung fu.
It dosen't matter if it is hard or not, just practice lots and you will be good it. Training in any martial art will be hard at first and the first few months will be HELL. If you can survive three months of suck you will stay, and after a year you will see major progress in your skill and fitness. I never did kung fu but i did karate, taekwondo, boxing, brazilian jiu jitsu and japanese jiu jitsu so i know stuff about this. when finding an instructor try to find a non profit place, they don't look to steal your money and they teach because the have a passion for their martial art. if you don't have any non profit then find a quality gym. if it looks like **** the that could be the quality of the instruction but watch the classes anyway. if instruction looks good and the students preform well join the gym. you can find a school with google
Q: how is a tall crane constructed? how can they put the crane on top of its tall body frame?
They first construct the top of crane on the ground with help from other mobile cranes. This includes the long horizontal part with the operator's cab, and the concrete counterweight. this is then placed on a climber, with which the crane kind of builds and climbs itself to the necessary height. Every vertical section of the crane is placed in the climber. When the piece is in place, the climber climbs to the top of piece from where the next vertical piece is placed and so on. You can see how a crane is constructed in the website I've cited below:
Q: Where you stand on one leg with your hands up and out to sides.Isn't standing on one leg in a fight leaving you exposed and vulnerable? What techniques can you actually do from that stance anyway (other than jumping up and kicking with the leg that was on the ground like the karate kid).
Good question. Apart from the aspect of training, if you use it as a stance like in The Karate Kid in a real street fight or in a pub, it is comically useless. Movies are only movies and the moves are choreographed to captivate the audience's romanticism with Kungfu. But, having said this, the crane stance if used as a transitional move is a practical technique but both outstretched hands are either spear-hands or tiger-claws, not crane-beaks rising from the sides as in The Karate Kid. Or, if targeting only to the frontal opponent, both hands are forward, one fore and the other behind the front hand. The lifted leg is a frontal leg block either with the shin or knee. The knee must reach your solar plexus as a proper position. The whole centre-line is protected for an immediate instance, and is particularly used when there is a sneak attack from the front. But, don't ever use it as a stance waiting for an attack nor with any fanciful stances for that matter in real situations. To be effective with this technique, the person must be able to resist a frontal push while standing on one leg. To achieve this, he has to spend long hours on the 'horse-stance'. The common term for this single-legged stance is Golden Cockerel Standing On One leg, Jin Zi Du Li (my romanisation of Chinese is not to be trusted, but it sounds somewhat like that in Mandarin). As I said earlier, this is a transitional technique and really what follows after is the interesting part.
Q: I was wondering if anyone knows what period this book is set in? I know that it's set in the slums of New York and the story was published in 1893. But what time period does the story actually take place?
hah ha i'm in your class too :) This project sucks... and I still haven't done it! I have to tonight..
Q: I had a dream and it wos really scary so realistic i woke up crying and could go to work the next dayi was in my house and woke up and came downstairs and there were letters on the floor and someone was picking them up then i looked outside and there wos a big fire and a crane had fallen down and explosion and everyone was dying their faces burnt i burst out crying. what does it mean?
Probably some stress or fear is looming large in your subconscious mind. Scary dreams often occur when you have something that is stressing you. That is assuming you didn't read some book or watch some movie that brought it on, that is another possibility. Often we replay images we have in our heads from the day before. I don't think it is an omen or anything. So, be glad to say it was only a dream.
Q: How do cranes get put together?
They're just born that way! lol, just kidding!
Q: What does "jack up" tower crane 1000KNm mean?
1000KNm means the lifting moment. Equal to the maximum lifting capacity of 63 tons.
Q: Trying to find an estimated weight for a mobiles crane with a 5 tonne capacity ?
If the crane HAS a 5-ton capacity, then to be able to estimate the weight you would need to know the length of its lifting arm at maximum extension w.r.t the C.G. of the body of the crane. So suppose we have an arm length of (say) 6 mtrs, then the max turning moment at the fulcrum (from front wheels of crane ? ) due to the Load alone = 5 x 6 = 30 You need to add the moment for the arm itself. Lets say the arm is around 1/2 ton. And its c.g. is approx 1/3 the distance from the fulcrum. Then this adds another = 1/2 * 1/3 *6 = 1 So total moment is 30 + 1 = 31 The body of the crane must be MORE than this. Suppose the C.G. of the crane is 2 meters behind the same fulcrum. Then weight of the body must be 31/ 2 = 15.5 tons. Lets say the weight is 16 tons. Then the TOTAL mobile cranes weight would be 16 (body) + 1/2 (arm) ~ 16.5 tons It all depends on the dimensions of the crane, and where the c.g. is located. If the crane has ballast added right at the back, then it's overall weight can be made less since it's c.g. would get shifted further away from the fulcrum
Q: how to make an simple electromagnetic crane?

Q: I want this as a tattoo but I want to know what it means. Why type of tree is it? What do the symbols translate into?
?The other answers already have some great info! I live in Japan too so let me try to answer your Q. the best I can from what I know. This image is used for Japanese Congratulations- omedetou おめでとう (omedetai) and good fortune, prosperity and good luck as well. It has a GOOD meaning. When I was married to my hubby here in Japan, some of our wedding gifts were wrapped in Japanese cloth with this image. The bird is a crane, as everyone already said and is the symbol of longevity, long continuance. The kanji is for the word crane (bird) - tsuru 鶴 as also mentioned, in Japanese. The tree is a Pine (tree), or matsu 松. (It's part of my last name!) The center circle is the sun, often seen in such scenes. This design can be found on some wedding kimono in Japan as well as Japanese screens, decorative plates (I have one) and dishes. It's rather beautiful and I think it would be a gorgeous tattoo! Hope this helps!? EDIT: The small red symbol under the big black kanji is just the hanko- Japanese stamp of perhaps the artist. Not really part of the design.
