Q:Why does the correspondant keep repeating If i am going to be drowned? IF I am going to be drowned -- if I am going to be drowned -- if I am goi
I like Persipho's answer. But I have to disagree on one point. Nature is not hostile. It's indifferent. If you try to swim the English Channel and are able to go 21.5 miles instead of 22 miles you will drown. Nature doesn't care if you go all that distance just to drown, This is the irony. It doesn't matter if you go 10, 15 or 21.5 miles. If you get a cramp you will probably drown. Nature doesn't care. That's what the correspondant means. In the story a bird watches them and is completely indifferent. The indifference of nature is part of the School of Naturalism that Stephen Crane, Jack London and others belonged to.
Q:Im hearing this like every day theres more going down..why is it happening? A terrorist plot perhaps? I say we send some troops to stand guard and prevent another tragedy!
These are dangerous peices of equipment, they endure high stress and are at times pushed to the physical limits. I have on occassion worked with and under them and always had a lot of respect and always felt safer when away from them. Construction cranes in particular are more dangerous because they are forever changing in height, position, amount and type of load. Cranes in permanent installations are ususlly carrying same or similar loads. Construction sites are hazardous due to many factors but just about everything on site gets handled by the crane at one time or another. Inspection, inspection, and re-inspection with concurrent correction/adjustment are the only preventative measure availble beside the assurance of competency of the operator. There are plenty of laws about them already but this is not to say new ones might be justified as new hazards become apparent. Most terrorists are too dumb or lazy to get involved with cranes--why bother when so many easy targets are out there !!!!!!!!
Q:What did Stephen crane contribute to history?
I think his greatest contribution was The Red Badge of Courage. It was the most ealistic portrayal of a Civil War soldier written at the time; so real, in fact, that veterans swore the had fought alongside him during battle (Crane wasn't even alive during the war).

Q:I want this as a tattoo but I want to know what it means. Why type of tree is it? What do the symbols translate into?
The kanji / symbol (character of Chinese origin, also used in Japan) is the kanji for 'crane' (the bird, not the construction site vehicle!!)
Q:What other actress of the 1960s who could have done the role of Marion Crane in Psycho,in place of Janet Leigh and give result too?I think she perfect.
Eva Marie Saint might have but Kim Novak I think might be a stronger choice than Saint. There really weren't any other major stars that fit Hitch's 'look' of the girl. And this one needed to be strong and independent.
Q:In the U.S. please and tell me where and how you got the number. Thanks!!!
There are so many overhead cranes in operation today in the US and around the world. They could be numbering in tens of thousands in industries and other operations. An overhead crane, commonly called a bridge crane, is a type of crane found in industrial environments. An overhead crane consists of parallel runways with a traveling bridge spanning the gap. A hoist, the lifting component of a crane, travels along the bridge. If the bridge is rigidly supported on two or more legs running on a fixed rail at ground level, the crane is called a gantry crane (USA, ASME B30 series) or a goliath crane (UK, BS 466). Unlike mobile or construction cranes, overhead cranes are typically used for either manufacturing or maintenance applications, where efficiency or downtime are critical factors. Have a pleasant day.
Q:for my homework : the question was explain how a skyscraper crane uses physics moments but no where can i find out the answer and dont want a detention ekkk x
OK... So what has your homework actually asked you to explain? Can you post the question...? There are moment forces going through a crane, is the aim of the homework simply for you to explain what a moment force is using a specific example ? A crane can be thought of in simple terms as a cantilever, ie one supported end and one free end, the lever arm force as it is sometimes referred to in schools is actually the moment force i.e. the moment for a crane with a boom L=40m long lifting a load of P=10kN would beP*L = 10*40 = 400 kNm, this is ignoring the self weight of the boom, if the boom weighed W=1.5kN/m (thats per meter, not to be confused with kNm which is kilo newton meters) then the moment generated by the self weight would be (WL^2)/2 = (1.5*40^2)/2 = 1200kNm so the total moment would be 1600kNm, so just remember for a point load the moment is force * distance from support ( in cantilevers) hope this helps... :)
Q:A. Load capacityB. Fluid leaksC. Clearance for swing radiusD. Wire rope wear and sheavesE. All of the above must be inspected before operating a crane
Load capacity is not required to inspect provided that the crane was inspected by third party and certified to the loads
Q:I have to read this book for an AP class next year. I did read the book and i don't understand how i can discuss the setting and its possible relationship to the theme. I looked stuff up on the internet and I've asked other people who have read the book and they're just as confused as I am. I need help!
I can't tell you what to write or what you see as the theme but one of the themes in the book is man versus nature. Maybe you could discuss the setting as part of nature and what Crane seems to be saying about it. One thing that might help is a poem Crane wrote which explains how he sees things. Maybe you already know it. It's titled A man said to the universe A man said to the universe, Sir, I exist! However, replied the universe the fact has not created in me a sense of obligation. An indifferent universe. Not unlike how Thomas Hardy saw things.
