Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.
Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.
Aluminium foils thicker than 25 µm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.
Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.
- Q: Like.when Bush was told that Iraq had no WMD's by the UN inspectors - or that the Niger yellow cake and aluminum tube thing was false - yet still invaded IraqOr now that we find that Iran halted it's nuclear program 4 yrs ago - and he still wants to invade Iran.
- Bush frightens meI don't know if he is managed by Cheney or if he really manages the business of our nationEither way, he has not been good for our countryI'm a vet.been there, done that and bought the t-shirtRode with the Blackhorse along the Cambodian border in 1969/70.who love his country and supports our necessary invasion of AfghanistanI do not support the invasion/occupation of Iraq, which we were lied into by BushcoIraq was a war that never needed to be fought and diverted our efforts in AfghanistanBottom lineBush lied and our soldiers died in a war that never needed to be fought in IraqIt will be interesting to see if he tries to take us into an unnecessary war in IranPlease, dear God, don't let Bush lead us into another unnecessary warThere is a sharp partisan divide in our country at presentI wish that regardless of party affiliation that we could acknowledge the damage that this Administration has done and move forwardBush/Cheney is truly toxic to our country.
- Q: Chose from plastic bag, aluminum foil, wax paper, paper towel
- Vacuum sealed plastic
- Q: Write an electron configuration for an aluminium ion in an excited state (in orbital format)
- installing styro foam sheet cut to size glued to the exterior and then take the same product 1/2 thick and apply to inside will greatly improve your preservation time.also throwing a old folded blanket around the out side works
- Q: Sounds nothing like a doorbell and more like someone farting with a aluminum can up they're rear!! Anyone else have this stupid noise for a doorbell on Yahoo Messenger? It sucks, so does the new home page! They should leave stuff alone!
- Yep, same thing hereThey changed the sound when they introduced version 8 I believeYou can change this under Messenger Preferences Alerts and Sounds, but the doorbell is not longer a doorbell, but like you describeThe only thing I can think of is to go to a previous version of messenger and copy the doorbell.wav from that version into the new one and you will have the old sound backMicrosoft does the same thing to its products, they should just leave well enough alone.
- Q: Solid Copper(II) chloride is dissolved in waterSolid aluminum is then added to the aqueous solution of Copper(II) chlorideA student observes the entire process from start to finish, explain what the student sees making sure to note things such as color changes, etc and explain why the student sees this in terms of what is happening chemically/physically.
- I love painting and sketching.
- Q: i have gel tips and i want to get rid of dem can i buy actetone and do it myself? or go 2 a professional
- yes you can do it yourselfBuy nail polish remover that has acetoneYou can either put the acetone in a bowl and dip your nails until they become soft and you can remove it with a nail pusher or stickYou can also grab a piece of cotton, fill it up with acetone, put it on your nail and cover it with aluminum foilThis should take about 15 to 20 minutes to get softThen remove it with the nail pusher or stickNote: The gel nails will get sticky and gooeyDon't be alarmed, it's ok.
- Q: i'll be using a DIY hair color kiti have black asian hair and it will be my first time to colori bought a mahogany color but i think its too red for meif i wash the dye off early, will i get just a tinge of color? (that's what i'm going for.)
- if it's a permanent color then you'll have to mix 2 chemicals togetherthe developer (sometimes called peroxide) works for the first 20-30 minutes to lift out your natural haircolor; then the color gets deposited into the hair for the next 15 minutes (it depends on how long it's supposed to be left ondifferent manufacturers have different times to leave the color on) you could end up with a tinge of color - you could also end up with all kinds of different colors because the color doesn't penetrate as well on some parts as it does others (hair close to the scalp developes faster because of the heat of the head) here's my suggestion: do a strand test on a swatch of hair in the back (under all your other hair) close to the occipital bone (the one that sticks out in the back of your head)wrap it with aluminum foil for the correct time on the packageonce it's done shampoo, condition and blowdry to check the color outyou might just want to do hilites with the color around your face so it's not TO differentred color molecules are the biggest there are so it fades more quickly than any other color.
- Q: i just bought some of this modeling clay for my daughter for her science project and put it in the oven for the correct time on a baking tray with nothing elsewhen i took it out 15 minuets later, it was all burnt and the room filled up with a whitish sm…
- sheet metal attached to the studs then drywall over it with your firerock.
- Q: Obviously, we do produce steel, aluminum and other metals, although do we produce it in large quantities? Or is it a small industry compared to simply exporting raw materials like alumina and iron ore which would be processed overseas? Is it any cheaper for the raw materials to be processed overseas? For example, as I understand it, producing aluminum requires large amounts of electricity in the process of electrolysis to form pure aluminum metal from the alumina ore. With countries such as Japan not having access to cheap coal to produce electricity like we do, is it cheaper to produce aluminum here in Australia?
- We still do a far better job of digging it out of the ground selling the raw material than we do of refining then exporting the finished products.. My guess is that the reason for this is that because on a world scale our domestic market for the finished product is so small , countries like China that have a voracious appetite for the finished product know that we are not in a strong bargaining position demand that we sell the raw material . .....their cost of production being much cheaper means the end product is a heck of a lot cheaper as well...plus you can bet that we either pay the freight costs or heavily subsidize them !
- Q: with out the frostingI would like to make the green velvet cupcakes in advanceI'll be using the canned frostingany advise? also, which it is better the food coloring or icing gel paste?
- I would use the gel paste as it is more vibrant and does a better jobIf you are only leaving the cupcakes out overnight, just be sure they are totally cool, then cover with aluminum foil or saran wrapThey should be OK for a day or twoHowever, if your planning on preparing the cupcakes this week for StPatrick's Day, put them in an airtight container and freeze them.
