- Q: I‘m gutting my bathroom and will be tiling the floor and then adding a new vanity and a new toilet. The question is, do you tile before you put in the toilet and new vanity or do you put in these items first and then tile around them? Concrete slab foundation that I‘m currently working on leveling.
- SOME 10 point answers so far. I hope you acknowledge all of them. The issue relates to what you might want to change, Down the road and please know that home builders, don't usually do any flooring under a vanity,,,sigh. I've installed multiple thousands of sq. ft. of flooring, and have re-modeled more bathrooms than anything else, and have to say if nothing is in the bathroom yet, your looking at installing not much more than a 30x24 inch area of tile UNDER where the vanity will be, and less under where the toilet will be. At current prices, and without the added labor you're cost might be less than another $50 for the better way to go. Seems logical to me. Still, give everyone above me some thanks. Tiling, sheet vinyl, hardwood, Solid GOLD, UNDER a toilet is a natural assumption, and allows for NO odd cuts. Assume however, that one day you might want a pedastal sink as opposed to that GLIT vanity. If you install flooring Under, it'll still be there, if you change your notion. Very realistically TILE, etc. Will NOT be on the shelf, to match, 5 years from now. Steven Wolf
- Q: Glass glue and tiles
- Glass glue and the United States seam agent glue gun can be universal, but the real porcelain must use a special glue gun, South Korea imported porcelain stitch without glue gun such as: Chunlan winter rain porcelain dress
- Q: im making this really cool projecr for my moms birthdayy and i need a few tiles. plain tiles. where can i get them individually and cheap? ‘ how much will it cost? (per tile)
- Most tiles are sold by the square foot,(s/f). But most places like Home Depot and Lowes will sell the small tiles , like the 4 inch tile per piece. I ve seen them as low as 8 cents a pc for basic white and cream ( bone colored) . Matte and high gloss both. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
- Q: The tile is one week old. I have had the company pull tiles, regrout and patch. I have new cracks every day. Can I reasonable ask them to start over?
- I will not wast time describing how it should be done. I will however as a Licensed contractor tell you, you have the right to have ask (demand) that they do it, if they have to do it 10 times to get it right its their problem not yours...end of story... that is the law. And... I wasn't going to say anything but it just pisses me off when people give advice on a subject they clearly know nothing about. I have been doing masonry for over 20 years myself and my family has been in the building business for 2 generations and I have NEVER heard of moping a new tile floor with warm water so the grout will not crack. Or sealing a floor under tile. Because it doesn't exist...Look people I answer question that I know the answer to or offer advice based on my experience with the matter. The people on this site are looking for an answer to something that is important to them and you should respect that. would you like someone answering your question that doesn't really know the answer but is just kinda guessing backed by a little knowledge? NO and I wouldn't either. Especially regarding someones home come on. Everybody has an area of specialty so answer those questions you KNOW the answer to or at least indicate that it is a guess when you dont...theres plenty of questions to go around for all of us.
- Q: Why should the tiles be soaked before the tiles?
- Due to the different water absorption of different tiles, there is no specific standard. But the end result is to tile the water "drink full", no longer take the bubble so far. High water absorption, the bubble will be a long time. Rainy season because of its humid air, time should be correspondingly shortened; heat dry weather, the time will have a corresponding increase.
- Q: 2nd bathroom, rarely used. Not sure if I want to spend the time to remove the tile (200 sq ft) or just put a think underlayment over it and then laminate.Anything that I should be concerned with doing it this way?
- It is not recommended that you install laminate flooring in bathrooms or in other areas in your home prone to increased moisture. Even though the underlayment protects flooring from moisture, these areas usually contain too much moisture which can cause flooring to warp. Use a special adhesive if installing laminate flooring in places with excessive moisture levels.
- Q: Should i tile right to the sub floor. Or do i leave room for a baseboard? or do i put the baseboards over top of the tile and glue them on?
- What okorder /
- Q: I want to put tiles down on my kitchen floor, but first I need to pull up the old pattern. It is a whole piece of laminate flooring that is starting to come undone where the dining room and kitchen meet. So how would I go about doing this? Do i just pull the laminate up? Is there a specific way to put the tiles down?
- First okorder . Good luck.
- Q: How easy is it to tile a kitchen floor. Plus would you lay the tiles directly onto the concrete sub floor or lay concrete boards or chipboards underneath. I would also like to continue this to the hallway and under stairs. Thanks.
- You do want to lay it directly on the slab. And treat the slab accordingly depending on the shape of the slab. Cracks need to be treated ( several ways to do this) and any dips or highs dealt with ( if any). The basic work is easy its the hauling of the tile and the thin set bags thats the hardest. Common sense and basic DIY skills is all thats needed. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
- Q: i will be laying tiles o my bathroom floor and i am wondering if HomeDepot or Lowes do the tile cutting. i dont want to purchase the wet saw. i will need to cut tiles for corners and things like that. Thanks.
