Check around the seems of your mattress, carefully inspecting each inch, top and bottom, lifting up the seems as you go around. You might notice one hiding .. ONE IS A PROBLEM. or you might come across a nest even. You'll see their droppings if they're there. If the problem is out of hand with many nests it will be very difficult to get under control and you might consider just tossing out the mattress .. but WASH EVERY STITCH OF FABRIC YOU HAVE IN THE HOME .. INCLUDING THE DRAPES IN BOILING HOT WATER TO KILL THE BUGS THAT MIGHT BE THERE because the problem will just seep back into any new matress you purchase. TheY didn't just appear out of nowhere into the mattress, and are most likely hiding in cracks and crevices around the home .. including inside clocks, tvs, radios .. they just need a tiny space to hide in and are hard to crush so get your home FUMIGATED if you find even one and VACCUUM VACCUUM VACCUUM REGULARLY even if you don't have an infestation at the moment.

- He should go from crib to cot when he has started getting up by climbing over the crib sides. Cots (toddler beds) should be used as they're generally closer to the floor than regular beds, in case he falls out. They're not all that expensive. Regular bed maybe around 3 or 4, when he's filling up the cot pretty well.

- That bedding should be fine for them. Just a little advice. Rats or anything can get lice, fleas, and mites from bedding bought in a store. This comes from the bedding when it is stored in the warehouses. If you put the bedding in the freezer for 24 to 48 hours it will kill anything in it and solve this problem. Hope this helped.

- Q: Hey everyone. My daughter turned 2 in September, and she's been having some sleeping issues. She has always slept in her own crib, but lately she doesn't want to sleep in it. She would rather sleep on our couch! LOL It makes me think she is ready for a change. So my husband and I were thinking about getting her a Disney Princess Toddler Bed for Christmas. I showed it to her, and she loved it. I think this will be the best decision for her since she is so petite, and I really don't think she is quite ready for a twin bed. Also, where we are currently living, her room is kinda on the small side. But I have a lot of people telling me it's pointless to buy a toddler bed since in a few years she will need a twin. I think it's best to get her a smaller bed for now and try to get her back to sleeping good in her room and then later on get a twin bed. What do you think? Thanks is advance for all of your help!! - While cost wise it is more efficient, a toddler bed is a great choice. It is still the size of a crib and ives her the feeling of security. We tried putting our son right into a twin, and because it was so big, it caused him stress. Sometimes kids like the feeling of smaller areas. Even at 2 anything that can slightly remind them of the womb is comforting. It's all subconscious. The bigger open space can sometimes be not so comforting. It depends really on the child. My daughter is the same way as my son and we just turned her crib into a toddler bed, whereas my friends daughter went right to a twin with no problems. This is what our OT for our son told us.
- Q: Bed Bugs
- Consider using Diatomaceous earth. It is inexpensive, non-toxic and safe around any pets, humans and highly effective. I used it and actually found dead, dried up bed bugs around the house after I used it. You basically apply it around the foot of the beds from where the bed bugs can enter and also between layers, like between the bed frame and the mattress. Ideally use gloves when you apply since it can dry up your hands. Remember bed-bugs can live for months without feeding, so leave the powder for at least 2 months before you vacuum it off. A substitute for Diatomaceous earth is Boric powder, but I would recommend Diatomaceous earth. It can usually be found in pet stores or online (cheaper).

Pillows should be removed and dry-cleaned or replaced (Snetsinger 1997). For severe infestations, however, pesticides may be used. Care should be taken not to soak mattresses and upholstery with pesticides. Allow bedding and furniture to dry throughly before using.

- Well, that depends. If you're going for an aesthetically pleasing bedding, Aspen works great. If you're going for humidity retaining bedding, try Cocoa peat. But if you want an inexpensive, easy to clean, low demand bedding, use paper towels. My Ball Python has them in his cage and he's doing great.
