Cut back far enough to be able to put a gray boot then new plastic or brass from the Garbage Disposal thru the P-trap and waste arm. Just take the old drains out and put back new. I use plastic due to it's more convenient and it's hard to mess up. But if you want to go with the Brass, that's ok too. Don't try mixing the two cause your chances for leaks between the to fittings.
