Press fitting system joins pipe without welding or bolting. The components fit by crimping through the use of a special pressing tool. An O-ring that is inserted in the fitting ends of the pipe ensures a leak-proof connection. Press fitting system is the trend of pipeline industry. You can either mail order them or go to a plumbing supply house to get them. PVC for plumbing and electrical work is different in some respects as they designed for different uses. However you will find that the sizes are the same. So 1/2 inch PVC fittings for plumbing will fit on 1/2 inch PVC conduit. You may have noticed that the PVC in the store comes in different colors. This is to identify the specific use the PVC was designed for and makes it easy to spot a misuse on a job site. It is also easier to glue same colored pieces of PVC together due as they are made of the same type of plastic. PVC electrical conduit is stronger but is also a bit heavier as it is slightly thicker. PVC for plumbing comes in different thicknesses called schedule (SCH). The bigger the schedule number the thicker the PVC is.SCH40 is white in color and is probably the thinnest PVC you will find at a Home Depot.
