Press fitting system joins pipe without welding or bolting. The components fit by crimping through the use of a special pressing tool. An O-ring that is inserted in the fitting ends of the pipe ensures a leak-proof connection. Press fitting system is the trend of pipeline industry. It is widely used in cold and hot water supply, heating supply, fire protection, medicinal gas, industrial petroleum pipeline system etc.

- Just change the end fittings where they attach with a 3/4 to 1 adapter. Ideally, you should use a sweat fitting, but since you aren't *soldering friendly* you could use one of the newer styles such as what in in the link. That one is a *Sharkbite* fitting that you can get at the Home depot, but Lowe's carries their own version called *Gatorbite* and there are other non soldering ways to do it as well, such as compression fittings as shown in the second link. - I've got the same things in the building I work in. There Hard wired smoke fire detectors. The red light tells you the system is active. The other smoke alarm on the ceiling is probably a backup in case the building looses power. NOTE: Carbon Monoxide is heavy.The detectors are usually located near the floor.
