Q: How will i construct solar panel?
For powering a something that works on DC, like a gate opener, Elaine is right, and in some cases only ONE bigger cell is sufficient due to battery storage; however if the appliance is 20v AC, then an inverter is needed also. MOST of Elaine's answer is good, but a few corrections are needed: Plywood - use EXTERIOR grade only, and even then it can warp; chipboard or waferboard is preferable as it does NOT warp, BUT is not available most places in 3/8, /2 nominal, (5/32) is usually the thinnest available, and it is heavier than plywood. DO NOT use particle board. Superglue - NO, it dries too fast to be useful, in most cases. Wires - For a single cell OK, but for larger panels the best wire is tabbing wire, (which is flat,) which is available from all commercial solar cell dealers. Be very careful soldering this to the cells, as unless you buy the expensive flexible cells, they are easily damaged; I suggest also getting flux pens with liquid flux. Diode - Necessary, but needs to be large enough to handle voltage and current. Usually 25v and 5-30 amps,, one per panel. Plexiglas - OK, but NOT as long lasting as glass; best glass is the special solar glass which is designed to pass almost all of the proper light frequencies, but IS expensive, and usually needs to be specially ordered since most glass stores do not stock it. Double panes work well with the outer pane glass and the inner plexiglas, (to protect the cell if glass broken,) IF where might get damage, such as 'ground' mounting. AND Frame kits are available for larger panels, but IF you make your own, a good table router is a great advantage. Inverter - IF used for 20v AC appliances you MUST have an inverter capable of handling the load, and the best ones are modified sine, or true sine, wave types, and even the best are less than 50% efficient. Note that they will last longer if NOT used at more than 2/3 capacity.
Q: Ok Im trying to power my room using solar panels and I've figure out that I need about 700 watts to do so, but I really only use my electronics at night. I was wondering if I could buy lets say a 200 watt solar panel and let it charge a battery all day would that work? I live in southern california so I dont have to worry to much about cloudy days. also any suggestions on where to buy a panel, inverter, charge regulator, and battery?
You would probably need several batteries. 700 watts means about 40 Amps from a 2 volt battery. That is a lot of current. You need to loot at how may watt-hours you need. And how many amp-hours for the batteries.
Q: Can solar panels be used to power a factory?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power a factory. Solar panels generate electricity by converting sunlight into energy, which can be used to power various operations in a factory. However, the feasibility and effectiveness of using solar panels to power a factory would depend on factors such as the size of the factory, energy requirements, available sunlight, and the capacity of the solar panel system.
Q: I know that one LED can't power a solar panel. I have found 40 kmcd LED's on OKorder. I know that several of them (28 totale each one with a 470 ohm resistor all at 2 VDC) can show a reflection on a wall in daylight 60 feet away..
Your question has a lot of science involved that I don't understand perhaps the link posted in my source for this answer could help you out? It a site containing only info on LED Lights. Good Luck
Q: I have a solar panel i got for free and I don't know what to do with it. Its kinda big at about 20x 0and it puts our 2 VOC / .23 ISC. I don't know of anything that I could use it for. Its too big to say charge a phone or ipod....any suggestions??
Hey AJ, Tom is quite right, a panel that size is a great trickle charger at .2 amps. If you have a good sized 2 volt battery, like from a truck, or for a boat trolling motor (it should be at least 60 amp hours) you can hook it to the battery and it will charge it slowly anytime the sun shines. Don't worry about the voltage, most 2 volt nominal volt panels are wired for 8 - 9 volts, and if you hook them to a battery, the panel voltage comes right down to the batteries charging curve voltage anyway, they are designed for that. What you do need is a diode. A diode is an electrical check valve, allowing current to flow in one direction, but not the other. This will prevent the battery from discharging through the panel at night. Many panels today come with diodes inside the junction box on the back of the panel. If yours does not have any, go to Radio Shack, look for a 6 amp silicone diode, usually around75 cents. Put it in series between the panel and the battery, then, while you have a voltmeter hooked to the battery, connect the panel/diode to the battery and see if the voltage goes up slightly. If it does, you're all set. If not, turn the diode around and try it again. It has to be connected into the circuit the correct direction. Many people will state that you need a charge controller, but this is not necessary if your panels max current, ISC is less than 2% of your batterys amp hour capacity. In your case, if you have a 60 AH or larger battery, skip the controller. There is a great discussion about this in Richard Perez's book, I will list it below. If you want to learn more about these devices, there is a great magazine that gets into the nuts and bolts of renewable energy, it's called Home Power Magazine, the link is below. We started by hooking a slightly larger panel to some golf cart batteries 2 years ago, reading that magazine and going to some energy fairs. Today our home is completely powered by the wind and sun. Check it out sometime. Take care, Rudydoo
Q: I found portable solar panels used for boats etc. and was wondering how I could effectly use them for my home instead. If you have used them in the past, please tell how they worked (good or bad).
I think you'd be disappointed. But you might be able to take an RV, park it close to your house in the sunshine, run an extension cord from your house connected to a small fan and run the fan for free. I don't think it's worth the expense of the RV, but that's me. If you have the money, flaunt it baby, flaunt it.
Q: How do solar panels impact the local economy?
Solar panels can have a positive impact on the local economy in several ways. Firstly, the installation and maintenance of solar panels create job opportunities, stimulating employment and income generation within the community. Additionally, the use of solar energy reduces reliance on imported fossil fuels, contributing to energy independence and reducing energy costs for both households and businesses. This can lead to increased disposable income, which can be reinvested in the local economy, supporting local businesses and promoting economic growth. Moreover, solar panels attract investment and contribute to the development of a clean energy sector, positioning the community as a hub for renewable energy innovations and attracting more businesses and investments in the long run.
Q: How do solar panels affect the roof warranty?
Solar panels generally do not void a roof warranty, but they may have some impact on it. The installation process of solar panels involves drilling holes in the roof, which can potentially cause leaks if not done properly. Therefore, it is important to hire a reputable installer who is experienced in working with solar panels and understands the intricacies of a roof. Some roofing manufacturers may require specific mounting systems to be used, and failure to comply with these requirements may void the warranty. It is advisable to consult with both the solar installer and the roofing manufacturer to understand any potential impact on the roof warranty before installing solar panels.
Q: I really need to know about the good companies who are selling good quality home solar panels.I lives in Pakistan, solar panels sell here are cheap but they doesn't work for long time, mostly they are quot;made in chinaquot;.Consumption of units of our house written on our electricity bill is 300.My dad is seriously thinking of purchasing a solar energy system for house that long last and works efficiently. So plz help me out.
