- Q:or in queensland
- I think it is 10 australian doller per hour of 200 sq yd of roofing .It differ state to state
- Q:I am in the process of having a new roof installed. What are my options in regards to improving its' insulating properties?
- No matter what material you use for the actual roofing, make sure you have a Radiant Barrier installed at the same time. There are several different ways this can be achieved, your roofing contractor can (and should) advise you on the best method for your home.
- Q:How much insulation is required in a house roof in new York ?
- The US Dept of Energy provides online calculators to answer your question based on your zip code.
- Q:This is blocking airflow and I'm having it removed after I bought the house. There is already insulation on the attic 'floor'. This is double insulated and is not correct. Why would anyone do this?
- No building codes back then, and maybe he was thinking about putting an extra room up there then you would have to insulate the rafters also
- Q:I'm thinking of converting my brick walled corrugated iron shed into a changing room for winter hot tub use. I was advised by a friend that the first thing i should do is insulate the roof using glass fibre insulation (the yellow fluffy stuff in the loft) and a simple Plywood ceiling but im not sure how i would stick it to the existing roof (dimensions 170cm x 147cm). So..... how should i insulate the roof of my future changing room????
- What is he using glue on? Buy rolled fiberglass insulation, install it between the rafters and wall studs...paper side in. You can cover the walls and ceiling with drywall, OSB, plywood if you wish. You do realize that insulating your shed isn't going to make it much/any cooler don't you? You will need an air conditioner for that, but the insulation will help keep the AC in.
- Q:attic insulation
- Blow in insulation is so easy and cost effective, do it yourself. Machines can be rented at Lowes, HD, etc where you buy the material.
- Q:I'd like to put a train set in my loft / attic, so to avoid it being cold in there during the winter I'm considering having no insulation in the floor of it where one usually would, thus allowing the heat to rise into the loft. Then, insulate the roof between the rafters instead. Is this just as good at keeping the heating costs down?
- only if you do it right.do you have plenty of head room if so drop the ceiling down and super insulate two feet or more and don't forget to leave air space between roof and top of insulation or your roofing boards will rot very quickly.
- Q:im thinking of putting rolled felt paper under my metal roofing would that work instead of the reflective insulation instead?
- Probably could, but it would look like crap. Painting the roof white would do a better job of keeping the metal cooler. I'd install a ceiling fan in the center of the roof instead to force the hot air out.
- Q:I have a converted loft which is really cold. The roof doesn't have any insulation, just a waterproof sheet, but i don't want to spend too much insulating it with the proper boards. If i use mineral wool and staple it across the roof trusses will it do a good job?
- Yes, be sure to leave an air space between the top of the insulation and the roof deck to allow for ventilation, and use a vapor barrier on the interior side of the insulation.
- Q:Why would you not insulate between the rafters in an attic? I see a lot of houses with no insulation on the inside of the roof.
- Why would you want to waste money heating the attic? There are several reasons to put the insulation directly above the living space. Increases the life of your roof, prevents ice damming, saves money, helps avoid moisture issues in the attic and roof sheathing. Is that enough?
