- I use it when travelling, as it keeps your door from being opened, even a little bit. You put the L shaped end into the strike plate in the door frame, close the door and slide the locking part up against the door. The door won't budge.

- The holes *have* to be drilled right on the money. There are jigs for this. Other than that, the lock has to be, well, straight. If the outside is a little high and the inside is a little low (same with left/right) it will make the lock hard to turn. Loosen the screws that hold the lock on, and look down at the little tongue that runs between the cylinder thumbscrew. That should be level front to back and square to the lock left to right. If it's off a little, the lock will be hard to turn. If it's off a lot, the lock won't work at all.

- I am assuming the leaks have been fixed. If the area is dry prime with Kilz, up to four coats. the final coat may match the ceiling color, if not you need white ceiling paint, blend it into the old paint.

- It depends where the fire is. If its in a pan on the oven then smother the fire with salt or sugar or pretty much anything granular. If its a bigger fire then smothering it with a blanket is often the best way. Fire blankets are a good idea. Only put water on a fire if the fire is not a flammable liquid fire (including fat/grease) and its not an electrical fire. Just buy a carbon dioxide or an AB:E powder extinguisher for your house and you'll be sweet.
