- I LOVE my Roomba by iRobot! It's great for day in and day out regular cleaning! Even my teenage sons don't mind vacuuming with it! You just turn it on and it does the rest, even goes back to its home base to recharge when it's finished. The only thing you ever have to bother with is dumping the lint filter and occasionally cleaning the beater brush. And my mother loves hers! (and her Scooba, the robot that sweeps, mops, scrubs and dries hard surface floors!) But for deep cleaning, my Rainbow wins hands down... So, I have both, obviously. I've had experience with Hoovers and Orecks and so forth, but these are my top two choices.
- Q: Can a canister vacuum cleaner hepa filter be washed?
- I have been servicing and repairing vacuum cleaners for about 10 years now so I see a lot of filters. In my opinion even the filters that can be washed really shouldn't be unless they are a foam type material. Basically the washing doesn't really get the dirt out, what you have to consider is that the pores of the filter are super small to be able to trap particles as small as pollen and smoke and water doesn't flow well through holes this small. Also as the vacuum is running it is actually trying to pull air through the filter so the dust gets pulled in really hard and effectively gets stuck. Your vacuum will last longer by replacing the filter as it will cool the motor more effectively so while there is a cost in buying a new filter it extends the life of your vacuum hence saving you money in the long term. - well honestly you don't have enough money for all that although it is a good budget. never invest in a dyson it's a rip off I would buy a vacuum..up right/bagless Bissell...check walmart...under 100 bucks will get a nice one shark brand makes the best steam mop and hand held small rechargeable vacuum. I would not waste money on a hand held steamer I would rent a carpet shampooer from lowes or home depot to clean the pee and I would do that first target also has these items but you can oreder on line and pick up at walmart customer service for a fraction of the cost. *(*

- You're saying you have a Hoover built in 1933? If so, you may as well try to sell it as an antique to some vac shop and try to find something that will actually work. The bearings in the motor on that machine are most likely not greaseable anyway. Most times vacuum bearings are sealed and are replaced not lubed. There will be no parts available for that machine.

- the fan causes the vacuum cleaner to suck-in the air. as the moving air passes by the dirt particles, it's the INTERACTION of the moving air and the dirt that causes the dirt to be drawn along with the air. basically, the air molecules bash into the dirt particle and impart energy (momentum) to the dirt, and this is what makes it move. if there was no air motion over the dirt, then the dirt particles would not respond to the vacuum cleaner.

- II wouldn't invest in a central unit because if you suck up wood ashes with a vacuum the house is going to burn down and the new central vac will go with it. Shovel out the ashes to a securely covered galvanized trash can. The can should be outside away from the house. Didn't your mama ever tell you not to play with fire?
