- Q: Ok, I just moved in to my own apartment this past Spring, and it's an older duplex (with a lot of friggin windows-31 to be specific). So trying to keep the heat in this winter is a huge issue. I've heard of covering the windows with plastic to help, but I'm also looking at thermal shades (window quilts, etc.). My question would be which of these would keep more heat in? Or should I do both? (I would make my own if doing the quilts...so if anybody has any links to a really easy way to make them that would be very much appreciated as well! ) Money is tight, so I'm trying to avoid the problem to begin with..
- Where the window body mets the siding, must be caulked round. The home windows being new, must be sealed inside themselves. Therefore,. the one expertise hole might be wherein the brand new window body meets the residence at the external.

- Have you called the parts department at your Ford dealer? When I worked at Ford in the 80s I believe you could order them as a separate part.
- Q: There is a tear in my drivers side window at the bottom where the plastic is covered by the fabric, but the fabric is coming lose and the tear is starting to show and open itself to elements. Also, this window zipper only closes and opens one way, going the other way the teeth will not connect, any ideas? Also, there is a larger 4-5 inch tear in my rear plastic window right under where the zipper releases the plastic from the fabric. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
- There are some kits available for making repairs for clear plastic, you probably will not find them at an auto supply, but, at a place where supplies are sold for any inflatable items, air mattress,floats,etc. These clear repair kits come with an adheres and once in place it is there to stay. On the large tare on your back rear windshield, you may want to place a repair sheet on both sides. Also you may consider sewing it with clear fishing line. As far as you zipper is concern, you can replace the zipper pull, this may or may not solve your problem. Hope that some of the above is of some help!
- Q: I don't mind if its designed for another brand but I am getting very frustrated because I can't find it on GE's site or any other. I bought the unit without it in hopes I could find one online but can't find the specific one. HELP! The piece is the one that sits in the window to hold the hose in the window. The unit is a Portable AC which means it sits on the floor not in the window so its got specially designed plastic plate piece that is adjustable for your window size.
- Measure the window opening and go to a glass place with the hose and have them make you a lexan piece to fit the window with a hole in it. Lexan is very sturdy. You can run a rod straight thru the outside part of hose to keep it in place or tape it. It isn't like some technically expensive part to make. Actually it will probably be better than original. BTW, keep the hose as short as you can as it gets warm and heats the room as the compressor cools it. I had one and the closest I could get was 5 feet and it didn't help at all.
- Q: Ok so me my bf moved in together last may and have had about a 115-138 dollar power bill every following month. All of a sudden the past 2 months our bill came in at $200 bux! Iam so frustrated bc I always keep stuff turned OFF lights TV's ect. When they aren't being used..Constantly goen behind him turning crap OFF!BTW (Annoying) Decembers bill came in at 206+late fee!? I thought wow ok it is cold outside lately maybe its the heater? Then this months came in at $238 iam astonished dnt know how 2 pay it! So i put plastic from an old shower curtain up over windows even though i was told use plastic painters would use:) all i had was shower curtain! Will this even drasticly help reduce bill!? Could it also be that our hot water pipes aren't covered? Idk if they are or not but can find out really quick! Plz any real helpful answers will be much appreciated!
- Sounds like this is your first winter in the house. Since you have electric heat, and this has been a cold winter for the most part, it isn't surprising. You could though, turn off the heat while you aren't home or set the thermostat to 5-10 degrees lower. Then once you get home you could turn it back up to whatever you feel comfortable with. Be careful though, if the temperature gets too low and you turn off the heat, your pipes could freeze.
- Q: recently the plastic window in the back of my 91 mazda miata convertable top tore and iv been looking for where i can buy just the plastic window but i cant find it i can only find buying a brand new top all together but i know the top is made to be able to replace only the plastic so if you know where i can find these please help
- There are several types of tops used, and there is no way to guarantee of what replacement window will fit unless you know for sure who made it! Some times the makers name is on the top, however to find out you have to take the top a part. Next thing you need to know is that the labor is just as much for a window replacement as it is for a new top. Another thing to think about is that many times a complete top is less then 100 dollars more then just the replacement window. That is why I just replace the complete top my self, and use what I would have paid someone else to do the job to buy new cables and a rain rail. The first link is to directions on how one person did the job, I have read three different methods. However because of how the top was put on by the last person to do the job none of the worked exactly as published. The second link is to a site that has replacement windows, there are others out there. Note the one there is for the Robins Top, if it is factory or any other makers top, it will not fit. Replacement tops start at about 150 dollars and go on up. I have bought mine from Dave on OKorder. He used to carry a three window model and that was what I bought. I like his service and price. - Q: Would a Jeep Wrangler with glass windows be any less noisy than a model with plastic windows?
- Even with a soft top, glass windows on the full size hard doors makes for a much more quiet ride with the top up than a Jeep with half doors and the plastic windows. Plus, the hard doors will not flap at speeds in excess of 60 MPH as the soft portion of the half doors will. Not much of an issue unless it is winter and the heat quickly escapes from your Jeep while cruising down the highway. Even on the TJ with the more advanced door frame assembly, the glass is much more advantageous with the soft top. With the hard top, the CJ, YJ, and TJ are all about the same.
- Q: does tapeing plastic over windows help very much in winter?
- I don't know why you would want to tape windows. The best way to keep a place warm is to have curtains and close them to keep the heat in. That is a fact. Try it and you will see. good Luck. You could buy curtains in a charity shop but have your measurements. No Offence meant
