- Yes there is a real danger: I remember when I managed a polymerisation plant producing acrylic copolymers: There was a serious danger of volatile matter from some monomers - if I remember correctly - methyl methacrylate in particular, reacting with the contact lens and this could result in it fusing to the eye.
