- There is a linkage / metal rod that may have come off the electronic mechanism or the lock end. Remove your interior door panel and make sure your window is up and look through one of the access holes to see what is going on while moving the lock manually or with the electric button. If it is the latch mechanism, then most any chevy truck, tahoe, suburban, or escalade latch will work. The same if it ends up being the electric module. If it is the key cylinder itself then that is a bigger issue. The easiest and cheapest way to fix it if it ends up needing a new key lock would be to swap the lock from the passenger door that way it uses the same key that you already have. If you go to a junk yard and get a lock, it will be a different key and you will have to get a locksmith to make a key for.it. If you go that route, then get the VIN of the truck you remove the door lock from and then you can get a lock smith to look up the number in their computer and it will cut the key automatically (an automotive locksmith). Even with the VIN, the cadillac dealer will not make you a key because you do not have the title or registration to the junk yard truck. The expensive route would be to order all new locks from the dealer that use the same key - which is ok until you get to the ignition lock. Being a cadillac, it has a computer chip key and the vehicle computer security system has to be reprogrammed to accept the new key code. This route would end up costing hundreds, so you will want to file an insurance claim and let them figure out the best route to fix the problem.
