- Q: I have an ac/dc powered Firex smoke detector which is chirping. Since it is hard wired, I assume that the 9 volt back-up battery needs to be replaced. However, I can't get to it. There is a door that opens on a small hinge, and I can open the door a bit and see the battery inside - however, there is a connector that overlaps the door hinge and prevents me from opening the door enough to get to the battery. The is an instruction on the battery that states, remove connector to open the door, but I'll be damned if I can figure out how to remove the connector. It has wires going into it, and I can't see any obvious way to snap it out in order to allow the door to open. Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated. Lee
