- Mosaic tiles can add a lot of variety and interest into a bathroom. A mixture of blues is suitable and your decision to keep the other areas white is also correct. I am assuming the fittings will also be white colour. But, if you are planning to cover only one part of a wall where it is against the shower, it might not look right. (unless the wall you are referring to is the wide side of the shower and it is also the full width of the bathroom) it is best to either use it on all three sides of the shower or in one full wall of the bathroom.

- If that is what you were quoted by someone who is going to do the job - then that is the going rate for them. Which is likely in line with what other installers of tile charge in your area. Get other estimates or quotes from the people who will actually do the job. There is no standard/going rate that is applicable in every city, in every state across the country.
- Q: Our house has Asbestos floor tiles throughout. (I had them tested, and they definitely contain asbestos.)The dilemma: Currently these tiles are covered with carpet. The carpet is old and ugly and needs to be replaced. We want to replace it with Laminate flooring.I‘m worried about pulling up the carpet tacks at the edges.Is there a safe way to do that?Also, is it safe to put Laminate flooring over asbestos tiles?
- This probably isn't going to be cheap but you MUST get the asbestos out of the house asap. The only legal way is to employ a specialist firm to come in and remove it for you as they will have all the right equipment to remove it safely. They will also be licensed to take it away and dispose of it correctly. It's not just a matter of taking it to the local waste disposal site. If they're a reasonable company they may even take your old carpets away for you aswell because if they've been laid directly on top of the tiles there'll definitely be traces of asbestos in the carpets.
- Q: but now we have decided to probably go with laminate tile in each. Mainly time is the big thing, I know I can put that in but not sure about tile. Anyways is this a good decision. - Laminate Tile will only be as good as the prep you do before you lay it. To prep your floor, make sure there are not anything popping up through the floor ,clean it very well and vacuum well and let it dry and do it again. Buy some Vinyl floor primer and use as directed. also buy some tile floor sealer for the seams, it looks like model glue in a bottle. The primer makes the tile stick better and the sealer keeps dirt and water from getting under the tile and pealing it up. Where do you put the first tile, Try this. as you casually walk into your bathroom look down and see where your first step is as you enter,This is where you start, It is better to make the first step on a whole tile then on a crack or seem. center this first tile and go from there.

- What I did, was pull out the Yellow book, and called, compared prices, and see what they would do. ESPECIALLY, if you mention their competitor down the road, that said he'd install if for cents per square. Best least expensive way, is to go to Home Depot, get the guy in that dept... and see. I had mine professionally done, nothing like it in the world.. but do it yourself, is 'user friendly' today. Love the newer hard wood laminants, and tile ( look real!)... You get what you pay for. Go in the middle, and your are safe for the wear value. That I do know.
- Q: im looking for tips about PORCELAIN floor tiles.I read everywhere they can look like marble but without the maintenance issues, plus it is a harder material.I like the polished finishes .. and saw some samples of them.. rectified porcelain.I can‘t find much info on the net about its shape uniformity, but looks like they are kind of not so squared?I would like them big.. 24 inches, and spaced at the minimum which i think it is 1/8. But a few persons told me that is too close for porcelain and i should go with marble?The problem is that marble is much more expensive... so i don‘t know what to do.Are there brands of porcelain tiles known for their good uniformity... how should i shop for them.,? i don‘t know what to look for. please help.Please do not suggest any other type of flooring... im not interested. If porcelain is always not uniform, then what would the minimum spacing between tiles be so they look fine?Thanks a lot.
- I'm not sure what you're looking at but all the porcelain tiles I've seen are square. All square. Very square. There should be no uniformity issues whatsoever. Go to a home improvement store and take a look. The tile type really has very little effect on spacing. However if you want 24 tiles I would suggest 1/4 grout lines at least. It will be extremely difficult to maintain a straight even grout line If you go 1/8. Imagine, if for some reason one tile was out of square a little or slightly offline (which does happen) the grout line would disappear completely. The grout would also be more likely to break if there was any movement in the floor. If you insist on 1/8 spacing, it can be done, but the results will be almost definitely poor.
- Q: What‘s the difference between tile mastic tile adhesive? I was told to paint the wall w/paint primer first then use tile adhesive rather than tile mastic to apply tiles on damaged green board around my jaccuzzi tub for a quick fix. The green paper peeled off when removing the old tile exposing the brown cardboard stuff.
- tile mastic is usually a dry powder and you add water to it. tile adhesive is a premix that's like peanut butter that you could apply to the wall or the tile. The primer is to help glue the paper back one the gypsum. Then when you put the adhesive on, it'll stick longer. If you get the grout and adhesive mix, then you won't have to grout later, and I use it a lot in doing quick fixes. Comes in different colors and I use the unsanded cause it doesn't have to have much space between tiles to work. Put enough on the back of the tile along the edges so it oozes out. Good luck
- Q: I‘m trying to re-tile two small bathrooms. One is ~20 sf. The other is ~35 sf. I already have the tile, don‘t want any special designs, and have normal rectangular shaped bathrooms with a toilet on one wall (i.e. very few weird cuts). There is already tile on the floors that will have to be taken up. How much should I expect to pay to get someone to install it?
- I don't know where your from and prices varies Tilers charge per square yard. find out with your measurements what the square yard is. be it.. 20 , 25 i don't know. then ring a tiler and ask him how much they charge per square yard. multiply their answer with your answer. that's your price. in Ireland it's 15 per s yard so...... (10 sy X 15 = 150) remember when measuring that you subtract the windows and doors as tilers should not include this in price. also count your bags of adhesive as tilers steal the left over stuff thats not needed. I know this because I am one.
