- each crane is so different. it depends on the rated crane load, the lifted distance from the crane and actuall load to be lifted. Each crane an envelope of angles to the horizontal, lifted load, and distance from the crane. The crane operator must insure that he is within this envelope or the crane may topple over. Also, the wind at the time of the lift must be considered. If you can picture a seesaw with loads pivoting about a fulcrum. When two people are on the seesaw, one person is the crane and the other is the load to be lifted. Only in the case of a crane, the fulcrum is at the crane itself with a large dead load counter weight behind the cab operator.
- Q: Are there any special requirements for the installation of wall fittings of tower cranes?
- The spacing along the height of the retaining wall piece must comply with the installation instructions for the tower crane;
- Q: How the cranes can stand without any tipping with huge counter weights on its back? If there is no suspended load also the crane is is still stable with huge counter weights on its back. How it can possible? Why crane is not offballencing while we adding extra counter weights on it without any suspended load?
- Usually the counterweights can move back and forth on an arm. They are moved toward the crane when there is no load and away from the crane when there is a load. If the counterweights can't move, then the crane must be designed to hold (at least) the minimum counterweights in their fixed location. As the crane gets loaded, the net moment decreases, and then increases in the other direction as more and more load gets added. It is still likely that the maximum design moment when loaded far exceeds the moment due to the counterweights on an unloaded crane.

- What is the load weight? How high is the lift? Obstruction, possibly needing a jib? If you are placing a load onto a roof, how far from the edge of the roof is the load going to be placed? How far from the crane pivot is the load on the ground and how far are you going to to move the load away from the crane to place it in position? How close can you get the crane to the load and to the load placement site. The usual scenario is to call a crane outfit and they will ask you these questions over the phone or come to the site and discuss the lift with you. A crane is rated for maximum lift as close, usually 10 feet,to the cab pivot center. As the distance increases, the maximum load that can be lifted, decreases. Our 15 ton crane can pick 15 tons/ 30,000 pounds at 10 feet from pivot center. With the boom fully extended; the boom is 100 feet, at a 30 degree angle, it can pick up only 5,000 pounds. - make sure you find something that isn't trapped by anything else in the pit.. line up the crane one the front, then move over to the side and line it up... these machines used to be a lot easier 20 years ago, but now the arm doesn't apply much pressure.. it has to be lined up just right or you will never get anything...

- Levers winches and cranes all use a counter balance. Its weight that helps move weight in different ways. There is no such thing as an anti-gravity machine.
