FAQ
Q1. What is the difference between inverter and solar inverter?
A1. Inverter only has AC inpput, but solar inverter both connect to AC input and solar panel, it saves more power.
Q2. What is the difference between MPPT&PWM?
A2. MPPT has higher efficiency, it can track the max power point and won't waste energy.
- Q: this solar panel i saw was for 500 dollars(i get a 25% discount)and i was curious will they produce electricity? or just heat?what do they do?is it a good investment?here is a link to the one i would like, no reviews but it looks new to the site.
- This is a photovoltaic panel...it produces electricity from incident solar radiation. Solar thermal panels produce heat, and they are usually assists for hot water heating systems. Solar thermal panels have piping in them instead of semiconductor cells like photovoltaics do.
- Q: I know that there is a life expectancy for solar panels, and I suppose, the technology involved. Any information?
- Great okorder
- Q: i attached a usb charger to my solar panel(it has an output of about .2 volts) but i read on my multimeter its only using about 8 volts however on the conventional wall charger that i use to charge it has an output of about 5. volts.... i believe that my mp3 player is not charging it does not display the charging icon when it is on or off ....is this becuase the output is higher ? do i need to install a volt dropping diode to prevent it from putting to much energy at once? (my mp3 charges fine on the wall charger but does not seem to respond to the solar panel so it the circuits are fine....)
- You description is not clear as to what is supplying and what is consuming the .2, 8, and 5. volts you mention. I get that your solar panel output is .2 VDC (volts DC), but is that open circuit or under load? Also, is the charger output AC or DC? What's using 8 volts? Circuits don't selectively use a portion of the voltage supplied. They use all or nothing. Is the polarity correct from your solar panel to your MP3 player? If your MP3 player requires DC for charging and you're feeding it the correct polarity, but too high a voltage, an overvoltage protection circuit in your MP3 charging circuit might be blocking the charging current from your solar panel. Go through everything again and if you need to post another question on YA, be specific as to what you're measuring, where, and whether it's the source or load you're measuring.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a shipping container?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a shipping container. In fact, many people and businesses are now utilizing shipping containers as a platform for solar installations due to their portability and ease of installation.
- Q: I have created a solar setup in my shed i have 2x.5w solar panels i am hoping to charge my 55ah car battery how long would it take to charge the battery and how many watts could i used a day
- Quite a while. I am assuming you are using 2 volts as your buss power. The small panels were intended as a float charge for batteries to keep them from discharging over a period of time. 3 Watts means only /4 Amp. Normally when I do slow charging of batteries, I am using right around amp, and that takes about a week to bring up a battery that was discharged past 80 percent capacity. When you factor in losses from corrosion, battery self discharge, and loose connections, you will likely want to add more panels. using your 55Amp/hour battery, a amp charger running constant in a perfect world would take 55 hours. Real world, probably closer to 64 to 72 hours. That for simplicity is 5 Watts constant charge power. Now you are using /5 of that with your current setup. so 5 times longer, whichh puts you in the 300 hour range of real world, or 220 hours of perfect world. This time of year, you may have about 8 hours worth of charging light, which puts you at close to a month. Don't fret. If you are using it for lighting in a shed, Power LEDs and tethering some of the inexpensive LED lights to the 2 volt source will give you plenty of light for a very long time, the panels will help some, but you will likely need to put the batteries on a charger, or you can build a gas powered 2 volt generator easily enough. Charge it up only when needed.
- Q: We see increasing, what appear to be, solar panels on electric poles?
- Here is an article about this. They use the poles (which they already have) and install power panels, the electricity is given into the grid. There are companies in NJ which use google earth to find buildings with large roof tops (imagine all the warehouses !), contact them and lease the rooftops to install solar panels, there a different ways how to finance that (by them, by the company, ....) and they sell the electricity into the grid and receive a certain price for this. Usually the refinancing is 5 - 7 years of the investment, after this is profit for additional 5 - 20 years. Walmart had a project to put solar panels on the super centers ....
- Q: I am going to be building green in the next couple of years and i need an idea of how many solar panels i need in addition to a wind turbine to sufficiently handle a workshop, house, green house, etc. and what the approximate cost will be.
- Photovoltaic solar panels are priced by the watt. Average price today is just under $4.00 per watt. More efficient panels take less space to produce the same amount of electricity. To design a system, you first must decide how much power you are looking to produce. then you look at the various products to find what fits your need. if you have a very compact space, you may pay more for more per watt for really efficient panels, but if you have a good amount of space you can get lower cost panels that take more space and cost less. With a wind turbine complimenting your system you will only need a modest battery storage bank. 5kw system could get you off grid entirely! 5,000 watts x $4.00 = $60,000. 3kw system with net metering mat cost about $2,000. Many homeowners (like me) build their systems piecemeal to keep costs manageable. Good Luck! P.S. - If you build it with the house, the price can be rolled into the mortgage. $60,000 would add +/- $300.00 a month to your payment, but you would have no Electric bill, a savings of $00-200 a month. Once it is paid for, you only have to pay maintenance costs.
- Q: How do solar panels affect the aesthetics of a roof?
- Solar panels can have both positive and negative effects on the aesthetics of a roof. On one hand, the sleek and modern design of solar panels can enhance the overall appearance of a roof, giving it a more futuristic and eco-friendly look. On the other hand, the presence of solar panels can be seen as an obstruction or deviation from the traditional appearance of a roof, which some individuals may find unappealing. Ultimately, the impact on aesthetics will depend on personal preference and the integration of solar panels into the overall design of the building.
- Q: I don't see much solar panels on people's houses where I live. I got a long time to go before doing so but I was planning on buying a few solar panels when I retire in the far future. In your opinion, is such an investment worth it? Would you buy them? I realize they are very expensive hence why I said when I retire. Thanks for your opinion
- I have a boat in a sunny position and four eighty watt panels. These will run my fridge television and a few LED's. I nonetheless need to run my engine for sizzling water and washing desktop. My Batteries only final a couple of years and are an actual affliction. I am going on the mains when i will be able to to get the batteries topped up. The panels are adequate if there's nothing else, they don't seem to be the answer to the way forward for power provide. There's additionally the ethical part of the feed in tariff. For the wealthy to load their electrical power bill onto the less good off just isn't desirable and those panels on the roof inform all of your neighbors that you are doing it. As a way to exhibit a grasping selfish attitude. If they're any just right why don't the vigour companies purchase them and shop shopping coal?
- Q: How much Electricity does a standard Solar panel producein terms of Watts and in terms of Units( i.e. electricity meter attached in our House)If I have 20 Solar panels and an inverter , how much electricity will I Be able to harness and store (state that in terms of volts)Can I run Arefridgerator, Iron, Heaters, Plasma T.V. and other high Electricity Consuming Devices.
- Take a look on OKorder at some of the books on how to design solar energy systems. It is a bit more complicated than you might expect. I'm not sure what you consider to be a standard solar panel, but the 3' ones I have produce about 5 watts of power in full sunlight. Put simply, you need to convert the power from the solar cells (variable voltage) into a constant voltage usable for charging a batteries. Most of the low cost modules for this purpose can't handle more than about 00 watts. Larger systems are available that handle thousands of watts but they are quite pricey. Since you can't take out more than you put into your battery system, you can calculate about how long you can run a high-current appliance based upon its wattage rating, that of the battery system (adjusted for loss of converting to AC), and the charging system.
