- Q: I have recently built a brick bbq and the cement/sand between the brick has gone really dry and a very light grey colour - nothing like the colour of the cement between the bricks on my house. Aged cement will always be a different shade than new cement. The sand used can affect the color as well as water and mortar mix. A concrete stain can be used to give a different color. - I'm a tiler and a Hardwood installer. Backer board is specifically used for tile. The board is designed to created a strong and rigid bond to the subfloor. There's always movement in a structure and if you skip backerboard then your tile moves with the natural flexing of the house causing cracking in the tile and grout. Viny is flexible so all you need to do is to remove existing flooring and lay right on the subfloor.

- i use an arrow head type of ceramic tile drill to pre drill the holes, normal drill bits will go blunt. If you need to cut it use a tct jigsaw blade. Also make sure that the sheets are flat. I use dry lining screws as they don't rust I once made the mistake of using sheets that had been stored incorrectly, each one had a kink which could not be pulled out by screwing

- There are Plastic Parts that a [4 x 4] will slip into/.. I would use Cement to anchor that..being sure you don't squeeze the dimension inwards..so a [4 x 4] might not fit anymore-- Then you use Sheet Metal Screws to bolt the [4 x 4] into the Plastic Housing..2-screws.. === If your NOT useing a [4 x 4] size.. There are other types of Plastic..usually round stock../ You can lay-in all your Footings for the fence..apply the wood..screw them down/that way you can UN-Screw the wood for a repair.. ..and alot of wood will ROT--if you sink it in cement.. - You do not have to have hydraulic cement. Regular Portland cement mixed up as a plaster will work fine. Scrape off any paint so it will adhere better. Hydraulic is use where curing under water is needed. Since your will be dry, it is not needed. There is a product called surwall, spelling may be off, that is good for this. It has fiberglass fibers in it for strength.
