- Q:Power is coming from the breaker box and goes to light one. It then goes to light two. It then goes to light three in a pantry. I want to put in two switches between lights two and three. The first switch will turn on and off the first two lights, and the second switch will turn on and off the third light. I want to be able to turn the third light on and off independently of the other two. I don't want to have to turn on the first two to get power to the switch for the third. This is how it is currently wired, but it was done in the 1950s and I am upgrading to 3 wire instead of the 2 wire that is run in there. I have an idea of how to do it, but I want to know if there is an easier way. And no, I don't want to run wire to the switches first and then back to the lights. Even though that would be much easier to do.
- Since you have the option to rewire then this is really simple. First provide a continuous power wire to all three lights. You can do this with regular 2 wire romex. Then at each light you want to switch, provide a switch leg which is also a 2 wire romex from the light socket to the switch socket. you then wire this way: All blacks and whites on the continuous power wire connect together. so wire comes into box 1 and marettes to the wire going to box 2 and three. now for the switch legs you connect the BLACK wire to the black inside the light box. This then goes to the top of your switch. Connect the white wire to the bottom of your switch. it is now NOT NEUTRAL, it's your switched power that now goes to the black wire of your light fixture. The white wire of your fixture connects to the other whites in the box. Understand this fully! The white coming from the switch legs is acting as a temporary black in that it's hot whenever the switch is hot. Once you get this, you can wire all of them to your hearts content. And no need for 3 way wire.

- Q:How does using fluorescent light bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs help conserve energy?
- Fluorescent lights are more energy efficient because they use less energy to produce the same amount of light than an incandescent light bulb. In the case of the fluorescent light bulb, light is produced by exciting atoms (the mercury gas), which then gives off UV rays, which strikes the glass of the tube, which is covered in a sort-of glow in the dark paint. The UV rays make the paint glow, which is how they light-up. The incandescent light bulbs force electrons through tungsten filament, which resists the flow of electrons. This resistance causes immense heat, and makes the filament literally glow white hot. Fluorescent light bulbs do not get hot like incandescent light bulbs, and that is the main reason they are more efficient. They better engineered to produce light, not the heat that comes with incandescent lights.

- My dad has had a Zippo lighter for EVER!! It doesnt sound like the wick is the problem. Dad's has been black like that for as long as I remember. We are all so used to disposable lighters, I'm wondering if maybe your flint has run out and you dont realize it. The flint is a little red peg that sits under the wheel. I know you can buy the flint at most stores, but I bet someone in a liquor store could even help you replace it. And I think that Zippo lighters have a lifetime guarantee. - Light enters the eye passing through the cornea (the clear front part of the eye) and lens and then hits this retina. The retina contains cells called photoreceptors. - It's not the light that hurts the environment it's the amount of electricity it uses to turn it on and keep it on. That is why they are trying to get everyone to switch to the new bulbs, they use less electricity. Unfortunately they also don't give as much light, and can't be used on dimmers. So to get the same amount of light with the new bulbs you need to turn on about 3 lights to see instead of 1 with the standard bulbs that we have been using for years. The new light bulbs also contain mercury and can not be recycled, they will last longer but when they are burned out they will just fill up our dumps and harm the environment with the mercury. They need to think long term and find another way to save the environment without using mercury, saving electicity and making a bulb that can be recycled.

- While most light can be made to flash or strobe UV lights are not used in this fashion because there is no advantage to doing this. strobe lights must be able to light very quickly so this precludes fluorescent and most UV is of the fluorescent variety.
