- Unless you are growing live plants, you have no need for a light. And yes, a light can heat up a tank. Always use florescent bulbs with a fish tank. These are cool bulbs that will not alter temperature. Incandescent lights, on the other hand, will heat up a tank considerably. No fish will enjoy the temperature fluctuations from an incandescent bulb. Plus, you save power using florescent.

- LED are prettier and more energy efficant but tube, puts out more light. Depends on what u want to use them for.
