- I assume your question refers to an LED light source, vs. an incandescent light bulb. The LED uses 1/6 the energy of an incandescent, for equal light output. The LED therefore produces 6x the light output FOR EQUAL POWER INPUT. Obviously, both kinds of light sources come in a wide range of sizes.

- Q: can you use, or is a modeling light another term for key light.can i buy a modeling light, use it to correctly light my model, and then when i take the picture, the modeling light will flash?
- A modeling light is not a key light. A modeling light does not flash. A modeling light is simply a lower wattage bulb that will stay on as your lighting your subject so you can see what the actual flash bulb is going to do. So when you have a strobe you have two bulbs: the modeling light and the actual flash tube. The modeling light will not light the model when you push the shutter release on your camera. However, you could potentially use a modeling light for photography purposes if you didnt want to use flash but theres really not much light from it at all.

- You are exactly right - that's what a modeling light is for. Usually the modeling light power can be linked to the flash power. This allows you set the proper lighting ratios with multiple flash units. For example, if you set up a key light and a fill light, and you want a 3:1 ratio: you use the modeling lights to visually estimate how much light to use. That way you know how high to set the power without having to do it mathematically or wasting fifty or sixty shots trying to figure it out. The modeling lights themselves will turn off for a second when the flash fires.
- Q: It seems like a stupid question at first, but I am generally curious about this. Light has energy, and i was informed that all energy holds mass. Now, considering that all energy holds mass, that must mean that light has a weight however infinitesimal. Travelling to the speed of light requires more and more energy as you grow closer and closer to the speed itself. At one point it requires infinite, or nearly infinite amount of energy to travel the speed of light, so potentially; anything with mass would need an infinite amount of energy to travel at or near that speed. - No one has ever seen a traveling photon so there is at least no observational evidence indicating that light has to TRAVEL from source to destination. I my view light is a delayed response to something instantaneous. Since in my thinking light already exists everywhere there is no problem of it having to accelerate and grow mass in the process. The quantization or discrete nature of it can just be attributed to geometry of matter.
