- Q: Garbage disposal is wired into open electrical outlet down thru basement. Dryer is not vented outside, which is in the basement also, right next to this outlet. There is excessive lint from the dryer all over this open outlet that doesnt have a cover and the live electrical big thick white wire that you wire a house with is split down the middle then the raw metal part is inserted into each side of the outlet for the garbage disposal. If I pull this out to disconnect it will it spark? Shock me? Catch on fire? I want to do this because I am afraid it is going to catch on fire from all the lint. Is that possible also?I rent and I know the dryer should be vented, however it is all glass block windows and landlord has yet to fix it so please dont tell me to vent the dryer. thanks
- Dryer lint is just like a fuel, very flammable. Make the landlord fix it. That is a very dangerous situation. If he won't, report the problem to your local fire department. They will see he does fix it.
- Q: Especially from the U.K? I wanted to buy some weighing scales for like ?6, cos like I noticed you can resell them over here in the U.K for like ?50, or are these fake?
- the us is in a recession; NOTHING should be bought from China. also, China is a COMMUNIST nation.
- Q: does it or not losers??
- Brass is used in a lot of electrical equipment because it is a good conductor of both heat and electricity and is hard wearing and does not corrode quickly in many environments. The pins on electric plugs and their corresponding sockets in the wall outlet are usually made of brass. Martin
- Q: does adjusting the router's position about an inch or adjusting the direction of the antenna affect my laptops browsing speed?
- Not so much. But moving it away from other electrical equipment will make the signal travel farther. Also keep it as far from the cordless phone and things like that. Other digital devices, and concrete/brick walls really break it down. If you are connected to the access point at even a fair signal, you will probably be using all your internet connection speeds' bandwidth. Having a better signal wont make it faster, unless it is actually disconnecting on you.
- Q: I will be traveling to India in the next month. I have my laptop, camera and other electrical equipments which will need to be charged. I have heard that the voltage in India is 220 V and not 110 V. All my appliances work at 110 V, how do I make it work in India?
- There are some things that Radio Shack is good for. Converters for foreign travel is one of them. You'll need an adapter for the different plug configuration AND you'll need a voltage converter. Both are also available as a package. And a lot cheaper, cleaner, and more reliable than trying to build your own.
- Q: I recently came across an article that many Jews are now reevaluating whether electricity really is tantamount to lighting a fire, a forbidden act on the Jewish Sabbath, due to advances in our understanding of electricity through modern science. Is anyone aware of changing opinions on the use of electricity on the Jewish Sabbath? Are some Orthodox groups really changing their position?
- Please read the verses up to and past Jeremiah 8:8. Read all the versions. KJV is s poor translation. What do you think a lying pen of the scribe that works falsehoods is? The people did not know the true law of God because of them. Think about this for awhile and read the first few chapters of Levitcus to a child and see what they think. Follow God, not the lying pen of the scribes that changed scripture! Edit: I said KJV was bad translation did I not? I am not a Jew either. I just try to use common sense and follow what Father and Yeshua (Jesus) said. Can you not tell the things they did not say? BTW: Why not be concerned about Father's Law over Jewish law? I also believe in and keep the seventhday sabbath and do not and will not attend any church. Do you follow man or do you follow Father in Heaven? That is the question we must ask. I dare you to study Jere. 8:8 with an open mind and heart. If not, you just don't care to follow the true Father in Heaven. That is up to you. Look at Annt: This is the perfect example of man made law. You have got to be kidding. It is total non-sense. Wake up and listen to what Father places in all of our hearts, not to man made non-sense.
- Q: I plan to major in electrical engineering. I wanted to know if the stuff I learn there will allow me to do things like fix machines and stuff.I picked this major because I wanted something I can use at home
- I would suggest if you want to fix things at home you attend a technical school that trains electricians. Then you can become certified or licensed and earn a living. You might also want to get a degree in mechanical engineering so you can repair your plumbing. There are lots of skills an electrician has that are not taught in engineering school. If you have a degree in mechanical engineering that doesn't mean you are qualified to tear down an engine and rebuild it. I am not trying to make fun of your question but you should choose a discipline that suits your abilities and interests.
- Q: i am instrument electrical eng.student and i am about to take 2 of the 4 subject for electives, here the subject:1)process control2)automation and robotic3)measurement and instrumentation4)control system 3i am thinking to involve in maintainance, oil and gas or maybe aircraft maintainance.after grad.what is the subject is suitable and what is the subject advantage and disadvantage. i want get some advice before make the decision.tq
- Well. it is very good major Oil and Gas companies need ur major since the instrumentation is controlling the whole units. Huge Essential System and very critical in any refinery such as: DCS : Digital Control Center. ESD: Emergency Shutdown. UPS: Uninterrupted Power Supply ( Electrical Equipment feeds instrument load) I think u have a bright future with this discipline if you have interests . And regarding these Subjects, i dont know much about control All the best
- Q: I have to declare a major in my schools engineering program at the end of this semester, and I was wondering what type of working enviroments I would probably be in with either major and a bachelors/masters degree? What are the jobs like in each major? Desk/factory/lab etc? I know there are lots of options in each program, but what are most of the jobs in each respective industry like? Thanks!
- There are more USA jobs in electrical engineering than chemical engineers (see the source below) which may explain why I don't see that many chemical engineers. The few people I know who where chemist or chemical engineer moved into others fields. The one exception was a friend in college that I loss touch. Last I heard he working in production. All the EE that I know work in desk or lab work with occasional developmental testing of equipment in the field.
- Q: (without using any connection wires)? I frequently need to plug existing electrical equipment in places where there is no power outlet I have to use clumsy long tailed electrical extension plug that hinders free movement ? Short of using a battery in the equipment how to connect the power junction points (earth live neutral to an existing electrical power outlet using nothing but air in between)?
- Air is not a very good conductor. When you generate a spark, you are finally overcoming the insulative value of air and establishing an electrical connection through ionization. Anyone who has seen lightning can appreciate the randomness of the path of this connection. If there are any nearby conductors, the electricity will jump to them. An option for you would be to convert your power into some sort of form that you could beam towards a receiver (laser or microwave comes to mind). A receiver would then take the energy from the signal and convert it back to usable power for your device. A lot of energy will be lost in this process.
