Q: I laid a new porcelain tile floor in my bathroom. Old linoleum tile floor was in good shape so I just laid right over the top of it. All turned out well except around the toilet. Two of the tile cracked when I screwed the toilet back down to the floor. Obviously I‘ll have to pull the toilet again, remove cracked tiles and start over....but how to I avoid the cracks again?
The fact that those tiles cracked tells you that they were not supported from below. Your linoleum must be not well anchored there. You could try to cut out the linoleum and build up extra thin-set there to achieve the same height as the rest of the floor OR you could anchor the linoleum with extra glue where it was not supported before replacing your tiles. Personally, I prefer the first solution.
Q: My foyer and hallway is white tile with white grout. I am more vintage/traditional and was going to be using new grout. Are there any other colors besides white that will look good for the grout?
Depend on the style of house.. example 50s and victorian houses black will look good.Other than that I wouldn t change it. You make much of a dramatic change and eyes will be drawn downward..If your having trouble w/ the white grout staying white try staining it w/ a stain made for grout.. Time consuming and slow but you can do it yourself and it ll last for years.. Digging out grout is a risk of chipping tiles and not digging down deep enough I stained my gout from a lite grey to a dark grey .. GL
Q: What is the standard water absorption of tiles?
According to China's national standards for testing tiles, tiles according to the different water absorption, divided into porcelain brick (water absorption E ≤ 0.5%), fine stoneware tile (water absorption 3% ≤ E ≤ 6%), stoneware brick (water absorption 6 % ≤ E ≤ 10%), ceramic brick (water absorption of 10% or more) and so on. The test method should be tested on the back of the brick body. The moisture absorption of the tiles is related to the breaking strength, abrasion resistance and gloss performance. Generally speaking, the lower the water absorption of tiles, the better the tiles, the higher the product strength, wear resistance and gloss performance is better, the product is not prone to cracking or peeling. And high water absorption of the tiles after the thermal expansion and contraction will lead to tile surface cracks and the overall tile peeling, especially in the choice of toilet paving tiles more attention to this problem. To determine the size of the water absorption also has a simple method, the water absorption rate, also known as seepage rate, the simplest test method is to drop some water on the tile to do the experiment, after a few minutes, wipe the tile surface of the water, if not left any Traces, to prove that the water absorption of tiles is very low. If you leave the water mark tiles discoloration, then the ceramic tile water absorption is higher.
Q: How can i get hair dye stains off tiled flooring?
There are lots of experts out there who do some cleaning and polishing stuffs on tiles cos theres a possibilty that thing could go worse if you try it by yourself. why can't you just give it a try...
Q: After completing a bathroom tile job, including a tile baseboard border about 6 up from the floor, we have dried thinset in on the actual wall - places we missed during cleanup. I‘ve tried using some scrapers (plastic and metal), and the dried thinset is like concrete (naturally) and is pulling layers of drywall off with it. Is there a solvent or better way to remove the dried thinset from both the wall and the exposed rim of the tiles? As a last resort I might be okay with slight damage to the walls as they need serious prep anyway before paint, but I do want to make sure i haven‘t missed some very obvious, easier, better solution first.
all you can do short of replacing the drywall is to fill the holes with drywall patch and then sand and paint
Q: What is the classification of tiles, what is the difference?
Tiles are made of refractory metal oxides and semi-metallic oxides, through the process of grinding, mixing, pressing, glazing, sintering, and the formation of an acid-resistant porcelain or stone, etc., building or decoration materials, called For tiles. The raw materials are mostly made of clay, quartz sand and so on. According to the use of points: outside the wall, the wall, floor tiles, square brick, industrial tiles and so on. According to the molding points: dry pressure molding brick, extrusion molding brick, plastic molding brick. Ingredients: oxidized tiles, reduced tiles. According to glazed: glazed tiles, no glazed tiles. According to the water absorption points: porcelain tiles, stoneware tiles, fine stoneware brick, stoneware brick, ceramic brick. According to varieties: polished tiles, antique tiles, tiles, all cast glaze, throwing crystal tiles, microcrystalline stone, split brick, square brick (cultural brick). According to the production process points: printing tiles, polished tiles, spot bricks, crystal tiles, no glazed tiles.
Q: Is Tumble stones tiles a good selection for a kitchen backsplash and if so how often does it need to be sealed?
Perfect choice...seal once a year
Q: about a year ago i had tile installed on my home but winter is here and i was wondering if i could get carpet installed over the tile without getting the tile damage
I would recommend just using throw or area rugs over the tile. To lay carpet you must tack the padding to the floor then stretch and staple the the edges of the carpet along the floor boards at the walls. The end results would be tack holes in the tile and after time (walking on the carpeting) the padding will stick to the tiles below and would have to be scraped off if removed causing damage to the tiles.
Q: I would appreciate a double check on this problem. I believe I‘ve saved myself a lot of cutting, but I just want to make sure. My shower is 59 inches wide. My tile is 4.25 inches wide and tall. (square)My spacers are .25 inches wide. The middle point of my shower 29.5 inches. If I move my center line to the right or left by 2 and 1/8 inches I should be able to cover the entire width with 13 tile IF I allow for a 1/8th inch addition in each corner. Is this correct?
Ok so ignore your center line it does not matter here your tiles are 4.25, your grout lines are .25 and you are trying to get the tile and grout lines into a space that is 59 so if you take 13 tiles you get 55.25 for those tiles you will have 12 standard .25 grout lines totaling 3 giving you a total of 58.25 now from here what I would do instead of adding grout line and caulking on each end is form an L with the next wall (assuming you have 3 walls to tile to enclose the shower) because a standard wall tile is about .25 thick this would give you an 1/8 bead of caulk in each corner. Make sense?
Q: Chengdu tiles wholesale market
The best tiles in the country are definitely in Foshan. You can go to Foshan to see, or to (3taoci) official website to see. Secondary brand or a lot of
